Wusterwitz combines time by Lake Wusterwitz with cultural and historical themes in the town. Swimming spots, the promenade and events offer a variety of ways to spend your stay. When choosing accommodation, you can consider whether you would like to focus mainly on time by the water, insights into local history or a specific festival date.
By Lake Wusterwitz
The lake has swimming spots with sunbathing areas and a promenade for strolling. The lido is accessible by car and bicycle; parking spaces and bicycle racks are available. This lets you choose between spending time at the swimming spots and taking a walk along the promenade. A snack bar at the lido serves savory and sweet snacks. If you plan to stop there for a break, check its current opening hours in advance.
Local History
Wusterwitz was first mentioned in an official document as early as the 12th century; the brick church dates from the 13th century. Together, these two details provide historical reference points for the town’s past. On the upper floor of the restored former sexton’s house, the Wusterwitz Local History and Cultural Association (Heimat- und Kulturverein Wusterwitz e.V.) presents a permanent exhibition covering 130 m². The exhibition “Wusterwitz History in the Former Sexton’s House” commemorates Wusterwitz puppeteer Wilhelm Götze and cyclist Paul Z`dun. If you would like to visit the exhibition, check current visiting options in advance.
Festivals and Event Venue
Sports and choral events have a regular place in community life throughout the year. Wusterwitz also holds its annual Strandfest and Gewerbevereinsfest. The former brickworks, “Alte Ziegelei Wusterwitz,” is a venue for concerts, markets and arts and crafts. The festivals and events at the brickworks offer different reasons to plan a visit. If a particular festival or concert is the deciding factor for your trip, check the specific dates in advance.
The Wider Potsdam-Mittelmark Area
Beyond local attractions, the wider travel destination of Potsdam-Mittelmark offers additional attractions in their own right. Eisenhardt Castle, above Bad Belzig, is a cultural landmark where visitors can experience the Middle Ages firsthand. In the Middle Ages, Ziesar Castle was an important episcopal residence, and its well-preserved architecture is impressive; visitors can delve into Potsdam-Mittelmark’s religious and political history there. The treetop path in the Beelitz-Heilstätten forest park offers a different perspective on the region: the nearly one-kilometer-long elevated walkway passes through species-rich mixed forest and the historic buildings of the former A-Quadrant. These regional attractions broaden the options without replacing the focus on Wusterwitz and Lake Wusterwitz. The EuroVelo R1 cycle route passes through the scenic landscapes and historic towns of Potsdam-Mittelmark.
