Explore Falkensee from different perspectives: memorial sites and local history sit alongside lakes and cycling routes. When planning your stay, consider whether you want to focus on culture, a walk by the water or a longer tour. Several cycling routes start at Falkensee Regional Station.

Memorial Sites, Museum and Local History

Geschichtspark Falkensee is a memorial to the victims of National Socialism and commemorates the former subcamp of Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Its open-air exhibition explores the history of the former Falkensee concentration camp subcamp.

An audio walk created by students from Humboldt University of Berlin in cooperation with Museum und Galerie Falkensee explores the history of the camp, forced labor in Falkensee and the creation of Geschichtspark. If this format interests you, check in advance whether the audio walk is currently available.

The permanent exhibition at Museum und Galerie Falkensee brings together the natural world and wildlife of the Havelland, archaeology and the history of Falkensee, as well as the life and work of the poet Gertrud Kolmar (1894–1943). This brings natural and local history together with literary history in one exhibition.

The museum and gallery also include a contemporary art gallery, rooms for special exhibitions and displays from their own collection. The Gertrud-Kolmar-Rosengarten is also part of the venue. Another historic site is Falkenhagener Anger: this significant village green is protected as an architectural gem under a preservation statute.

Lakes, Circular Walk and Cycling Connections

Falkenhagener See and Neuer See are destinations for day trips in Falkensee. A circular walking trail around Neuer See allows visitors to walk all the way around it in any weather. At Falkenhagener See and Neuer See, there is a playground with a sunken ship, a mud play area and a nest swing, making the visit particularly appealing for families.

The approximately 8-kilometer “Radweg der Sympathie” connects Falkensee with Brieselang and Berlin’s Spandau district. Along the way, it passes through woodland, green corridors, meadows, ditches and quiet residential areas. The route includes Geschichtspark Falkensee, the park of the former Seegefeld manor, and later the Bredower Forst nature reserve.

The Berlin Wall Trail crosses Falkensee near Falkenhagener See, passes through Bürgermeistergarten toward Spandauer Forst and returns to the Berlin side at Pestalozzistraße or Maikäferweg. The permanent exhibition “Spurensuche: Mauer” in Bürgermeistergarten tells visitors about the Wall that separated Falkensee from Spandau.

Cycling Tours with Different Themes

The cycling tour “Auf den Pfaden der Alten Hamburger Poststraße” starts at Falkensee Regional Station; plan a full day for it. Another tour, “Kleingewässer, Feuchtbiotope – Erholung vor der Haustür,” also starts there. It passes through the town center to Kantstraße, where you can enjoy views of Falkenhagener See and Neuer See.

The cycling route from Falkensee to Döberitzer Heide starts at the regional station and follows Potsdamer Straße, Schwartzkopffstraße, Coburger Straße, Döberitzer Straße, Nachtigallstraße and Gartenstraße toward Dallgow-Döberitz. A cycling tour to the nature trail in Bredower Forst also starts at Falkensee station. The nature trail lies between Falkensee and Brieselang; route conditions may change, so check them before setting out.

The Bredower Forst is home to the corn crake, also known as the king quail, a very rare meadow-nesting bird listed on the Red List. Sightings are seasonal. If you are interested in nature and birdlife, this offers a different focus from the historic sites and tours through town.
