Castle history, museum exhibitions, lakes and the Tiergarten circular trail offer different ways to enjoy a stay in Königs Wusterhausen. Three museums are within walking distance of the station; the 7.5-kilometre Tiergarten circular trail can also start or end there. This lets you plan your visit around culture, water or a walk in the countryside.

Castle and Town History

Königs Wusterhausen Castle served as Frederick William I’s seat of government and was the meeting place of the legendary Tobacco Club. Following extensive renovation and restoration work, it reopened in 2000 and is designated as a castle museum. It can only be visited on a guided tour; check the tour times in advance.

The Dahmeland Museum focuses on a different subject: its permanent exhibition covers the history of the Dahme region and the town of Königs Wusterhausen, complemented by changing special exhibitions. The three museums near the station tell the town’s history from different perspectives. Castle history and exhibitions on regional and town subjects thus offer different ways to enjoy a cultural stay.

Lakes and Activities on the Water

The lake district around Königs Wusterhausen offers lidos, swimming spots, boathouses, moorings and fishing spots in the town centre and in almost all of its districts. Activities include paddling, rowing, sailing, water skiing and pedal boating. This gives you a choice of different ways to spend the day: you can plan time at a swimming spot or fishing, as well as activities on the water. Paddling, rowing and pedal boating are different ways of getting around from sailing and water skiing.

Tiergarten: Forest, Shoreline and Circular Trail

Today, Tiergarten is a diverse deciduous mixed forest and nature reserve. It was established in 1725 as a game preserve for the Soldier King. The 7.5-kilometre Tiergarten circular trail starts and ends at Königs Wusterhausen station or at the hiking car parks by Tiergarten. The route follows the water along quiet stretches of shoreline by the Staabe and Krimnicksee lakes.

Ten wooden sculptures along the circular trail highlight aspects of local history. At the orchard, the route also takes in the “Twelve Wise Men” stone circle, with a barefoot path, balance beam and rest area. Husareneck and Spukbrücke are also sights along the way. The circular trail thus combines views of the landscape with historical themes and named stops, without these forming a separate route of their own.

For arrival or departure by rail, the station is a natural point of reference: it is served by regional trains on the RE and RB lines as well as the S-Bahn, and is also a possible starting or ending point for the circular trail. Check current train times when planning your trip.
