When planning your trip, you can choose how much to focus on cultural history and cycling. The church in Kasel-Golzig is an example of late-medieval church architecture; Kasel Castle adds a distinctive feature to the history of architecture. A regional cycling tour complements these themes with a practical activity. The options range from historic architectural styles to a route with different distance options.
The Church in Kasel-Golzig
The church in Kasel-Golzig is a rectangular late-medieval fieldstone building with brick elements. It was built at the end of the 14th century. The date of the west tower is less certain: it may have been added at the beginning of the 15th century. The interior contains a Baroque pulpit altar and a sandstone baptismal font. The coats of arms of the von Schlieben and von Zeschow families are displayed on the font. These different features offer various ways to explore the building’s history: the possible date when the tower was added is uncertain, while the construction period and furnishings each provide their own clues.
Kasel Castle
Kasel Castle is a former manor house, built as a stucco building in the second half of the 18th century. The castle complex was built in the neoclassical style and includes a former orangery. The oldest buildings in the complex are former half-timbered cavalier houses. The terms point to different aspects: stucco refers to the construction method, neoclassicism to the style, and the orangery and cavalier houses to parts of the complex. The building’s history can therefore be explored through several building types and features, rather than being reduced to the manor house alone.
Cycling Tour with Two Loops
The regional tour “From Schenkenländchen to the Tropics” can be ridden as a complete route or in two loops of around 26 and 69 kilometres. It follows sections of the Dahme Cycle Route, the Hofjagdweg and the Gurkenradweg. It runs mainly on asphalt or well-maintained roads and partly uses roads with little traffic. One stop along the route is the “Happy Ostrich” ostrich farm in Zauche, a district of Kasel-Golzig. Before setting off, it is advisable to check the route description and conditions, as surfaces and traffic conditions may change.

The Dahme Lake District and northern Spreewald together have more than 400 kilometres of marked hiking trails.
Another cultural attraction in the wider travel destination of Dahme-Spreewald is the Funkerberg Museum, at the original site of Germany’s first radio broadcast. It was transmitted from Königs Wusterhausen on 22 December 1920, with a Christmas concert.
