The Leimbach Route passes through Dielheim, but it is a 46-kilometre inter-town route: it starts at Sinsheim-Hoffenheim station and runs away from busy roads through Dielheim, Wiesloch, Leimen and Schwetzingen to the Rhine. The route opened in May 2015. Before setting out, it is worth checking the current route status and detailed conditions.

More activities locally

The SportPark is an open facility. In principle, its areas can be used from morning until evening by Dielheim residents, clubs and organised groups. At Kelterhalle Dielheim, supervised climbing on the ranko® wall is offered on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. for children and young people aged 5 to 16. If you plan to take part, check the date. The Leimbach Route and supervised climbing differ in their time and location: the route covers 46 kilometres and several towns, while climbing takes place for two hours on Wednesdays at Kelterhalle.

Local history and church architecture

Dielheim is first mentioned in a document in 767 in the Lorsch Codex. The Catholic church dates from 1784; its Gothic chancel tower now serves only as a bell tower. The first documentary mention and the year the church was built mark different kinds of historical reference. A chancel tower is a tower at the chancel end of a church.

In the wider Rhein-Neckar-Kreis destination

The wider Rhein-Neckar-Kreis destination offers culture enthusiasts a range of different highlights. Schwetzingen’s Electoral Palace has a Rococo theatre and a world-famous park. Much of Ladenburg’s historic town centre still has a medieval character, with some Roman influences; parts of the former town wall and defensive towers have been preserved in Wiesloch. The Technik Museum Sinsheim displays the Concorde. Guided tours of the castle are offered at Windeck Castle Ruins in Weinheim. The Hockenheimring in Hockenheim is a draw for motorsport fans.

Nature and outdoor activities in the wider Rhein-Neckar-Kreis also vary considerably. The Bergstraße and the eastern part of the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis lie within the Neckartal-Odenwald Nature Park. Eberbach has 150 kilometres of marked hiking trails. At Waidsee in Weinheim, there are areas for paddlers, sailors and windsurfers; at the bathing lake in St. Leon, water skiing and wakeboarding are available on a cable system. The annual “Ab in den Wald” programme offers free guided walks and excursions in the forests throughout the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis. If you plan to join an excursion, check the specific event date. The nature park designation applies to the Bergstraße and the eastern part of the district, whereas the forest programme, with its free guided walks and excursions, is offered throughout the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis.

Local food culture also offers a regional point of interest: asparagus has been grown in Schwetzingen for around 350 years.
