Waibstadt offers two clearly distinct ways to enjoy a stay surrounded by nature: the approximately 2.5-kilometre Forest Nature Trail in the Mühlberg Forest and the 2-kilometre “Marble Run Trail,” a comfortable hiking route. There are also several starting points for circular walks, as well as castle ruins and a parish church visible from afar. You can choose the route that best suits your plans based on its length, the stations it offers and the suitability specifically described for the Marble Run Trail.

Forest Nature Trail and Orchid Meadow

The Forest Nature Trail has more than 20 interactive stations, including a tree telephone and a forest xylophone. The circular route starts at Dr.-Weil-Weg and continues past the orchid meadow to the insect hotel and observation tower. If you would like to plan stops at different stations along the way, this route connects the forest, meadow and the points mentioned above.

The orchid meadow lies at the northern edge of Mühlberg, towards Neckarbischofsheim. Five species of the rare flowering plant grow there; the number of species may change over time. Check local conditions before setting out.

Marble Run Trail: a different focus for your hike

Comfort Hiking Route 6, the “Marble Run Trail,” is 2 kilometres long and combines nature experiences with playful stations. It is particularly suitable for families with children, older people and those with mobility impairments. One section runs along the edge of the forest and offers a view of the Schwarzbach floodplains. By comparison, the Marble Run Trail is shorter than the approximately 2.5-kilometre Forest Nature Trail. The Marble Run Trail is described as suitable for a specific target group and offers views of the Schwarzbach floodplains, while the Forest Nature Trail has more than 20 interactive stations and passes along the orchid meadow.

Circular Walks and Starting Points

Five hiking car parks serve as starting points for several varied circular walks: “Am Weißen Stein,” “Weierwiesen,” “Waßenbuckel,” “Daisbach” and “Stadtmitte.” These named car parks give you specific starting points when planning a circular walk. Check local conditions before setting out.

Attractions in Waibstadt and Daisbach

Waibstadt also offers cultural attractions beyond its walking routes. In Daisbach, a district of Waibstadt, the castle ruins restored by a citizens’ initiative are worth seeing. In Waibstadt itself, the Catholic parish church of “Our Lady” is visible from afar and is an attraction. The restored ruins in the district and the church, visible across the town, offer different cultural highlights to choose from.

Getting There by S-Bahn and Bus

Waibstadt is connected to the S-Bahn network. S-Bahn line S51 connects Meckesheim, Neckarbischofsheim Nord and Aglasterhausen. Palatina bus line 797 connects Sinsheim via Waibstadt with Neckarbischofsheim, Helmstadt and Reichartshausen. The two lines offer different connections for your journey. Check the current timetables with the respective operator before travelling.
