Hohenbeilstein Castle, the wine trails and Lake Annasee give Beilstein a variety of attractions for day trips. Whether you are interested in falconry, the history of viticulture, literary stops along the way or nature, you can choose the focus of your stay. The annual vineyard festival adds an event with a set date range to this selection.
Hohenbeilstein Castle and Viticulture
The 23-metre-high keep of Hohenbeilstein Castle is known locally as “Langhans.” The resident falconry centre holds flight demonstrations at the castle. If these demonstrations are a deciding factor for your trip, check the dates in advance.
Below the castle is the viticulture educational trail, established in 2003. Informative displays cover organic viticulture, fungus-resistant grape varieties and the history of viticulture. The trail thus links current topics in viticulture with its history.
Trails for Wine, Literature and Views
The MB5 Wine and Reading Trail is a circular route between Hohenbeilstein Castle and Wunnenstein, passing literary stops along the way. Four of the 15 information boards are located on this section. The two figures refer to different lengths: four boards on the section, and 15 on the entire trail.
The MB4 Wine and Reading Trail includes a stop in Beilstein at the car park for Hohenbeilstein Castle. A hike of approximately 9 km also starts at the car park. These are different planning details: the MB4 has a named stop, while the hike has an approximate length. Before setting out on the MB4, check the route signs and access; for the hike, follow local route information.
The Steinbergweg above Beilstein’s old town offers a westward view towards Forstberg and Wunnenstein. Alongside details about the circular trail and hike, this provides a specific direction for orientation.
Nature and a Stay at Lake Annasee
Lake Annasee is a natural lake in Beilstein’s municipal forest and was entered on the landscape protection map in 1951 as a protected landscape feature. It attracts hikers and cyclists; benches and fire pits invite visitors to linger. Its protected status and the opportunities described for spending time there offer different insights into what makes the lake special.
The Vineyard Festival as a Seasonal Event
The Beilstein Vineyard Festival takes place every year from Friday to Monday on the weekend before the summer holidays in Baden-WĂĽrttemberg. If you want to plan your stay around the festival, check the exact dates for your chosen year.
