Bad Rappenau combines saltworks history with extensive parks and a brine bath. When planning your stay, you can choose from a range of experiences: historic sites and a museum, guided tours, outdoor trails or the indoor pools at RappSoDie. A special glimpse into industrial history awaits at the ensemble at the southern end of Salinenpark: historic drilling houses, a brine extraction tower and a treadmill are located there.

Salt, brine and the town’s history

Opened in 1989, the museum in the “Forum Fränkischer Hof” cultural center provides an overview of the history of the saltworks, spa facilities and town of Bad Rappenau. The permanent exhibition also covers the prehistory and early history of the Bad Rappenau area. It presents the development of the spa and saltworks alongside an account of the town’s early history. Brine extraction began in Bad Rappenau in 1822; the last surviving treadmill of the Rappenau saltworks was also built in 1822, in connection with the sinking of the first brine well. For the 2008 State Garden Show, the Bad Rappenau Heritage and Museum Association established a Salt and Brine Museum in one of the historic drilling houses to complement the municipal museum.

Three parks, each with its own character

Salinenpark, Kurpark and Schlosspark cover a total of around 29 hectares. Playgrounds, waterways and peaceful retreats are among the parks’ features, along with a graduation tower, an animal enclosure in Zeitwald, a lavender labyrinth, a barefoot trail and a spring grove. The well-maintained and varied gardens and parks are also a destination for the whole family. If you would like to make a particular facility a priority when planning, check the latest information before your visit.

Guided tours or exploring on your own

The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Gästeführungen e. V. regularly offers public guided tours on behalf of the City of Bad Rappenau/Tourism. These include museum and town tours on the theme of “Salt and Brine,” visits to a historic drilling house, and tours of the large parks. There are also guided adventure hikes and bike tours in the surrounding area above the Neckar Valley. Numerous walking, hiking and cycling routes invite you to explore Bad Rappenau and its surroundings. A guided tour focuses on a particular theme; on the trails, you can plan your own exploration. Check the dates and routes for guided activities in advance if you would like to plan your visit around them.

The brine bath as a destination in its own right

The RappSoDie brine bath has two indoor pools with different designs on two floors, as well as a steam room. Alongside the museum, historic sites and trails, the indoor pools are another option for a stop on your itinerary. Check current operating conditions before visiting.

Heilbronn as a wider travel region

As part of the wider Heilbronn destination, the district offers further options for planning your trip: around 1,000 kilometers of signposted circular day tours run through Kraichgau, Zabergäu, Weinsberger Tal and Schozach-Bottwartal. The Neckar Valley Cycle Route is also among the cycling routes highlighted in Heilbronn district.
