Haiterbach lies on the edge of the Black Forest and is part of the Heckengäu and Schlehengäu regions. This landscape designation refers to a narrow strip between the eastern Northern Black Forest and the Gäu. The town in the district of Calw is in Baden-Württemberg at an elevation of approximately 506 metres. Two distinct themes take centre stage when planning a trip: circular walks and a nature trail on the one hand, and local history and the local history museum on the other.
On foot: circular walk or nature trail
Haiterbach has designated hiking trails. The Cuckoo Trail is a circular route around the whole of Haiterbach. It is approximately 20 kilometres long and divided into two equal-length stages. When planning, you can choose between the longer full circuit and two sections of the same route. Another option is the nature trail in Tann: it is 3.6 kilometres long and involves an ascent of 70 metres.
The nature trail offers activities that let you experience nature through your senses. Geology is explained at a quarry. The forest and its animals are explained in a child-friendly way; the trail also covers trees and their leaves. At the animal long-jump activity, visitors can compare the jumping power of different animals. In this way, the trail has a different focus from the Cuckoo Trail, whose key planning details are its length and division into stages. The nature trail starts and ends at a car park directly on the road to Beihingen.
Local history and the local history museum
Haiterbach was first documented in 1099. The town was granted municipal rights in 1349; in 1363, the Counts of Hohenberg sold Haiterbach to the County of WĂĽrttemberg. The medieval town wall with its three gates is believed to date from the final decades of the 13th century. These dates refer to different events: the first documented mention, the granting of municipal rights and the subsequent sale.
The local history museum opened in Beihingen in 2000. Its activity days take place on the first Sunday of each month from April to October. Visits can be arranged by appointment with the association's board. If you plan a visit to the museum, arrange it with the association's board.
Other places and getting there
There are local recreational facilities beyond the hiking trails, too. There is an indoor swimming pool at Burgschule, and a small sports field is also near the school. A gliding airfield lies between Haiterbach and GĂĽndringen. For a break outdoors, there is a picnic area with a shelter.
The nearest railway stations are in Nagold and Horb am Neckar, each approximately ten kilometres away. The nearest S-Bahn station for Stuttgart is in Herrenberg, around 23 kilometres away. If you are travelling by train, check the connections for your planned travel day. This will help you coordinate your journey with the routes, a museum visit or other local destinations.
