Rohrdorf offers three circular routes and several dated milestones in its local history. The routes start within the municipality and are suitable for residents and visitors alike. This lets you consider nature and local history as two distinct focuses when planning your trip.
The three circular routes in Rohrdorf
The Bergwald circular route is about 4.5 kilometres long and leads through forest and higher-lying areas; natural sections and views over the surrounding area are also part of the route. The Staufen circular route passes through varied landscapes of forest, meadows and areas near the edge of the village. The Malmen circular route is ideal for a stroll or a short hike, combining quiet paths with sections close to the village. This gives you a concrete basis for choosing between them: approximate route length, landscape mix and whether the route is suited to a stroll or a short hike.
Dated milestones in local history
Rohrdorf was first mentioned in a document on 18 December 1285. The newly built St John’s Church was consecrated on 25 April 1311. The Alte Kommende was built in 1430 on the site of the former castle and directly adjoined the church. The Kaplanei was built in 1595 in the Renaissance style. More than three centuries separate the first documentary mention from the construction of the Kaplanei. Between them came the church consecration and the Alte Kommende, whose location on the former castle site and directly beside the church makes both spatial connections clear. As a Renaissance building, the Kaplanei marks another architectural milestone.
