Taillades lies at the foot of the western end of the Luberon. The area offers a range of reasons to visit: rocky viewpoints, a historic village and trails for outdoor activities. If you are looking for a hotel in Taillades, you can first consider what you want your stay to focus on: a clearly defined hike, the village’s history or seasonal cultural events. These themes have different implications for planning your trip—from trail information and event dates to choosing the right time to travel.
Landscape and Views
Two rocky viewpoints above Taillades offer views across the Luberon, from the Cavaillon plain to Mont Ventoux. The view thus spans a broad sweep from plain to mountain. The hike on the Colline de Pied Caud also offers landscape views, but of different named landmarks: the Petit Luberon and the Durance Valley.
Trails for Hiking and Other Activities
Taillades has an extensive network of paths and trails for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. Access restrictions may apply in summer, so take them into account when planning. The range of activities does not automatically describe the conditions on any individual route.
The Colline de Pied Caud is a specific easy circular hike covering 5.5 kilometres. It includes 123 metres of ascent and the same amount of descent; walking time is about one hour and 50 minutes. Along with the route, the views of the Petit Luberon and the Durance Valley are a distinctive feature of this hike. If you plan to use the walking time to organize your day, check the route details before setting out: the information may change.
Traces of the Old Village
In the old village, La Tour preserves a remnant of a fortification. In the historic centre, a church dating from the 18th century stands in the upper part of the village. At the entrance to the Vieux Village is the rock sculpture “Morvellous,” which dates to the 14th or 15th century. The village therefore brings together different forms of heritage: a fortification remnant, a church and a historic rock sculpture.
Cultural Venues and Their History
The Théâtre des Carrières is located in a former quarry in the village of Taillades, now transformed into an unusual cultural venue. A variety of performances are held there every summer. If you would like to attend an event, check the dates for the summer in question.
The Moulin Saint-Pierre has a different history: built around 1860, it was first used as a madder-powder factory until around 1875 and was then converted into a grain mill. Today, the mill is not open for regular visits and can only be accessed for events. For several years, cultural events, including theatre and music, have been held in its courtyard during the summer. Before your trip, check whether an event date that suits you is available.
Market, Travel Season and Getting There
The Marché des producteurs des Taillades is a weekly market run by producers and food artisans. In 2026, it is scheduled to be held at the Moulin from April to the end of October, and at Place de la Mairie from November to the end of March. If the market is one of your reasons for visiting, check the dates and location for the year of your stay, especially if travelling in a later year.
Taillades can be reached via roads D143 and D2. When choosing when to travel, it is useful to note the differences between the various offerings: performances and events take place in summer, the market changes location seasonally, and access restrictions may apply on the trails in summer. Hiking, village history and events therefore offer different ways to shape your travel dates.
