Beaumont-De-Pertuis brings together several distinct historical highlights: a Romanesque village church, a chapel with frescoes outside the village, and a chapel whose entrance was developed from a cave in the 17th century. These sites differ in date, location and visiting conditions. This can help you plan your trip: you can focus your time on architecture, medieval painting or a site in the rock face, rather than treating the sights as interchangeable stops.

The village church: Romanesque architecture and altarpieces

The Église Saint Jean-Baptiste stands in the heart of the village and dates from the 11th century. It is Romanesque and contains five altarpieces. This brings together two ways of looking at the church: its date and style place the building in its historical context, while the altarpieces offer a specific detail of its furnishings. If you would like to see the altarpieces inside, check access to the church in advance.

Frescoes in the Chapelle Notre Dame de Beauvoir

The Chapelle Notre Dame de Beauvoir lies outside the village. Its interior is not open to the public, in order to protect its rare frescoes. The painted decorations date from the late 12th century and depict scenes from the New Testament, especially the life of Christ; such paintings are rare in the region. Compared with the Église Saint Jean-Baptiste, the focus here is on the subjects depicted and their place in the medieval period. The frescoes make the chapel a different art-historical subject from the Romanesque village church, but the interior remains closed to visitors.

Saint-Eucher: cave and footpath

The cave known as Saint-Eucher opens in the rock face. Its entrance was developed into a chapel in the 17th century, so the rock formation and sacred use are directly connected at this site. A 2021 travel description identifies a short, hard-to-find footpath at the foot of the steep rock face, beside the D996, as the way to reach it. “Short” and “hard to find” are two different points to bear in mind: check local trail conditions before your visit and do not plan based on the path’s length alone.

A starting point for another route

The “L'eau des fontaines et Chapelle Sainte-Croix” route starts at the car park of Parc George Bremond in Beaumont-De-Pertuis. This gives you a specific starting point for planning the trip. If you include the route in your stay, you can note the starting point first and check trail conditions locally before setting out.

Beaumont-De-Pertuis as an overnight destination

If you plan to visit the interior of the Église Saint Jean-Baptiste, check access in advance; the interior of the Chapelle Notre Dame de Beauvoir is not open to the public. For the walk to Saint-Eucher, checking local trail conditions is part of planning. This will help you assess whether the historical and cultural highlights, and their respective visiting conditions, suit your stay.
