Montagnac is a medieval village with a rich, protected and diverse architectural heritage. Its winemaking history, tastings and outdoor activities complement its cultural appeal.

Architecture and Winemaking History in Montagnac

The Église Saint-André is a specific landmark of the architectural heritage. It was designated a French historic monument by decree on 22 July 1958. For those interested in the village’s medieval character, the church provides a clearly identified cultural landmark.

The Espace De Vins en Découvertes is a starting point for discovering 26 centuries of winemaking and wine history. Les Vignerons de Montagnac welcomes visitors to its cellar for wine tastings. This offers two distinct ways to explore the subject: the Espace focuses on the long history of winemaking and wine, while the cellar offers tastings. When planning your visit, you can decide whether you are more interested in historical context, a wine tasting, or both aspects of wine.

Hiking and Sculptures in the Wine Country

From Montagnac, you can reach the Parc départemental de Bessilles via the RD5 towards Villeveyrac; after 5 km, turn towards the park. A 6 km walking and hiking route, marked with PR®, runs through the park grounds and vineyards. The 5 km refers to the distance to the turn towards the park; it is not the distance of the entire journey.

Another option is the “Terroir d’Art et de Nature” wine tourism trail: a 16 km hike with 14 large sculptures along the vineyards. The two routes differ in length: 6 km in the park compared with 16 km on the trail. The longer route also has its own focus, featuring sculptures. When choosing, you can consider both the stated distance and your interest in art along the vineyards.

Also note the access restrictions at the park: following the fire in August 2025, the swimming pool, children’s playground, hiking trail and orienteering courses were closed to the public in summer 2026. Check current access arrangements before travelling if you plan to use any of these facilities.

Activities in the Bessilles Forest

Global Aventure in the Bessilles Forest offers a treetop adventure course with 110 challenges and zip lines up to 150 metres long. Other activities include treasure hunts and orienteering courses, including a ribbon trail for young children. This gives you a choice of different activities: climbing, searching and orienteering. If you are travelling with young children, the ribbon trail is a specific option. Check opening dates and booking conditions before your visit.
