Pigna brings together performance venues, a year-round concert programme and insights into the rural history of the Balagne. For a culturally focused stay, you can explore three themes: theatre and events at A Vaccaghja, concerts centred on the voice, and rural culture at the Agri-écomusée. The theme you want to shape your trip can also help you choose the right time to visit.

Performances at A Vaccaghja

A Vaccaghja was once a livestock enclosure and has been converted into a 220-seat amphitheatre. Today, it hosts performances, concerts and theatre events. The venue thus combines its former purpose with a cultural use; its capacity also gives a concrete sense of the amphitheatre’s size. If you are mainly looking to experience events on a trip to Pigna, you will find a different format here than at the Auditorium di Pigna. Both venues contribute to the town’s cultural identity, though this does not imply any specific event dates.

Voice, concerts and Festivoce

The Auditorium di Pigna was built between 1998 and 2000 from unfired earth, following the principles of Egyptian architect Hassan Fathy. With 120 seats, it is smaller than A Vaccaghja. The auditorium hosts concerts dedicated to the voice throughout the year. Its construction and musical focus therefore offer two clear points of interest: the architecture and the concert programme.

Festivoce is another event to consider when planning your trip. The festival has been held in Pigna every July since 1991. This recurring July date can be distinguished from the concerts offered year-round at the auditorium.

The CNCM Voce is also part of Pigna’s cultural identity: the institution was founded here in 1978 and works in artistic creation, performance and dissemination, musicological research, musical education and cultural outreach. Its artists’ residencies give rise to free public performances. These add performances to the concert and festival programme; you should check their specific dates separately when planning your trip.

Rural history at the Agri-écomusée

The Agri-écomusée is open to school groups and visitors. It presents the rural history of the Balagne and focuses on environmental education. More than five buildings showcase the main types of rural architecture; the museum also preserves and presents samples of endemic varieties. Alongside venues and concerts, architecture, agriculture and environmental education are therefore distinct themes to explore during a stay. Those interested in rural heritage will find a different perspective here than at a concert.

Planning your accommodation and visit

When looking for a hotel in Pigna, you can first decide whether to plan your travel dates around Festivoce in July, a concert or your interest in rural culture. Visitors to Pigna have access to a private, paid car park. Include this parking option in your travel plans if it is relevant to your stay. This way, you can match your choice of accommodation to the cultural focus of your trip without treating the different event periods as though they were the same.
