Folelli combines a four-kilometre-long beach with the banks and canals of the Fium’Alto. Walks by the water, a natural site at the southern entrance to the settlement and beach activities offer different ways to explore the area. There are also routes with starting points towards Orezza, as well as traces of ecclesiastical and industrial history. This makes it possible to discover the area through its landscapes, activities and history.

Beach, Riverside and Natural Site

Folelli’s beach is four kilometres long. At times, it was also known as “Mer de la Castagniccia”. The beach of San Pellegrino is also near Folelli and south of Anghione beach. A wide expanse of sand and a protected setting characterise this stretch of coastline.

The banks and numerous canals of the Fium’Alto are also part of the local landscape. They offer walkers a place to relax. The Cardiccia natural site lies at the southern entrance to the settlement. So, alongside the beach, waterways and a named natural site are also highlights for anyone wishing to discover Folelli’s landscape.

Two Routes Towards Orezza

The starting point for the Penta–Palancitellu hiking trail is four kilometres from the crossroads in the centre of Folelli, towards Orezza. This shaded natural area leads hikers to the Fium’Altu and offers a diverse range of plant life. When planning your walk, note that the starting point is a destination in its own right; the route leads into a natural area by the river.

The starting point for the Fogata–Palustricu route is 3.5 kilometres from the same crossroads, also towards Orezza. The route is also suitable for mountain bikers. The two starting points are therefore 4 and 3.5 kilometres from this landmark, respectively; the second route is also designated for a different type of activity. Check trail conditions locally before setting out.

Church, Industrial History and the Place Name

The Christ-Roi Church in Folelli was inaugurated in 1934. A later extension more than doubled its interior space. The inauguration and extension belong to different stages in the church’s history: 1934 marks its inauguration, while the enlargement took place later.

Another historical landmark is the former tannic acid factory, a partially preserved industrial complex. The place name also has a traditional interpretation: Folelli is said to derive from the Corsican expression “I Fulelli”, meaning will-o’-the-wisps. This is presented as a possible origin.

Activities at the Beach and in Town

On Folelli beach, Allegria Longe Côte offers Aquawalking sessions lasting about an hour. They are weather-dependent. The approximate duration gives you a sense of the time involved, while the weather affects whether the sessions can take place.

The Centre Equestre du Domaine d’Anghione offers rides in Folelli lasting at least one hour, as well as full-day rides. Both shorter and full-day options are available. Contact the provider in advance to ask about dates and booking details.

For Corsican products, Boutique A Fiera welcomes visitors to the Semidei building, where you can discover and take home the products. This adds a stop with a selection of local goods to the outdoor activities.

Getting Your Bearings During Your Stay

The urban development of the municipality of Penta-di-Casinca is concentrated in the Folelli district, at the strategic junction of the T10 and the road to the Castagniccia region. The T10 connects Bastia with the south of the island along the east coast. These roads help orient you within the municipality; the two routes towards Orezza have their own starting points, given in relation to the crossroads.
