Henvic reveals its history through church buildings spanning several centuries and maritime connections, from a former navigation marker to the work of farmers at sea. There are also trails with different focuses: the Circuit de Lézireur, an easy 7 km loop, and the Hent Don, an educational trail with information panels.
Churches and Architectural History
The former Église Saint-Maudez is partially protected as a historic monument. Its rural architectural ensemble includes a 16th-century bell tower, a very large porch on the west side and a small 17th-century chapel. The old church, La vieille église, dates from the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Its bell tower once served as a navigation marker for ships entering the Bay of Morlaix—a maritime connection to the history of the building.
The restored La vieille église opens to the public for various events, such as exhibitions, conferences and concerts. Event dates may vary; check the schedule if you are planning a visit. The current parish church, Église paroissiale Saint-Maudez et Sainte-Juvette, was built in 1902 to plans by the architect Serrurier of Morlaix. Chapelle Sainte-Marguerite dates from the 15th and 16th centuries. The construction dates mentioned here therefore range from the chapel to the early 20th-century church.
Trails with Different Focuses
The Circuit de Lézireur is an easy 7 km loop that starts at the square by the old church. Check trail conditions and markers before setting out. The Hent Don offers a different focus: the educational trail runs between Keracoual Bihan and the Anse de Sainte-Marguerite. Information panels explain the hard work of Henvic farmers who gathered seaweed at sea to enrich their soil. Here, agriculture and the sea come together in a specific historical practice.
The Boucle du Vanneg is part of the GR 34, the GRP (Grand Tour du Pays de Morlaix) and the historic Tro Breizh route. These trail connections distinguish it thematically from the Boucle or Circuit de Lézireur, which is specifically described as a 7 km loop; no further shared route is implied. In Keracoual, you can also visit the Arboretum de Jean Merret, which showcases more than 4,000 species. The educational trail, long-distance routes and arboretum each offer a different focus for spending time outdoors.
Manor and Harbor
The present-day structure of the Manoir de Trogriffon dates from the 16th and 17th centuries. The estate includes a large pond where fresh and seawater mix. Alongside the architectural history, these landscape features offer another way to discover Henvic, though they should not be taken to imply that the estate is accessible.
The small harbor has a quay, a slipway and moorings for a few fishing boats as well as numerous recreational boats. Conditions at the harbor vary with the tides and its use. This practical note helps with getting oriented on site, while the bell tower’s former role and the panels along the Hent Don shed light on the historical connections between Henvic, the sea and work on land.
