Saint Yvi can be explored in two different ways: by following walking trails and circular routes, or by visiting its historic buildings and discovering its religious traditions. For planning, the scale of the routes is particularly useful: one route passes through several communes, while other trails are associated with the commune of Saint Yvi. There are also places with different historical connections, from a 15th-century chapel to a 16th-century portal.

Walking Trails and Circular Routes

The intercommunal circular route No. 11 passes through Saint Yvi, Rosporden, Elliant and Melgven. Its route therefore extends beyond Saint Yvi to include three other communes. If you are choosing between a hike across several communes and trails with a closer connection to one locality, this distinction is a useful starting point for planning.

The commune’s walking and mountain biking trails also include the Bois de Pleuven circular routes. They offer a different setting from intercommunal circular route No. 11: here, the focus is on a name directly associated with the commune’s trails. You can therefore make your choice based on whether you prefer a route through several communes or one with a more local focus.

For cyclists, the Là-Haut viewpoint is another specific destination. A 10-kilometre circular route leads there from the car park at Saint Yvi town hall. From the viewpoint, the panorama stretches from Pointe de Trévignon to the Ville-Close in Concarneau. The stated distance and named starting point provide a clear framework for planning; route details may change, so it is advisable to check the current route before setting off.

It is also worth considering how to get there: Saint Yvi is easily accessible via the Lorient–Brest expressway. This gives you both a specific access route and several different trail options to consider when choosing where to go.

Chapel, Pilgrimage Route and Historic Buildings

The Chapelle de Locmaria-an-Hent is also known as Notre Dame de la Source. It was built in the 15th century and is classified as a historic monument. It was also a stop on the Tro Breiz pilgrimage route. Its construction date, protected status and former role on the pilgrimage route offer different ways to understand the chapel.

A recurring tradition is also associated with the chapel: the Pardon of the Chapelle de Locmaria is celebrated in August, on the Sunday after the Feast of the Assumption. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the specific date before setting off. This lets you time your visit to coincide with the celebration without assuming a fixed calendar date for any particular year.

Another historical reference can be found at the Manoir de Toulgoat: its portal dates from the 16th century. The date refers to the portal, whereas the 15th-century date refers to the chapel’s construction. This distinction makes it easier to compare the two buildings without conflating their respective features.

There are also specific details in the town centre for a cultural and historical walk. On the church enclosure of Notre-Dame in Saint Yvi stands a calvary with a twisted shaft; the enclosure also includes an ossuary. The twisted shaft is a distinctive detail of the calvary, while the ossuary is another feature of the church grounds.

Saint Yvi as a Place to Stay

Different priorities may influence your choice of travel dates: the trails, the Là-Haut viewpoint or the Pardon in August. Check the date of the celebration in advance; for the circular route to the viewpoint, it is advisable to check the current route.
