Church art, historic buildings and themed trails give Pleyber-Christ several distinct highlights for a stay. The Church of Saint Pierre is part of a tour of the parish enclosures, with their walled church grounds. Other features include buildings with different historical connections, trails with their own stories, and activities related to art and agriculture. When planning, you can weigh up different interests instead of trying to fit everything into a single sightseeing itinerary.
Church Art and Historic Buildings
The Church of Saint Pierre ensemble has been classified as a historic monument since 1914. It includes an elaborately decorated high altar and a richly ornamented altarpiece, an intricately designed structure behind the altar. Its place on the tour of the walled parish church grounds and its interior furnishings offer different points of interest: the tour sets the church in a broader context, while the altar and altarpiece draw attention to the design of its interior.
The history of the Château de Lesquiffiou dates back to the 17th century. Its rectangular central building is dated 1698, while a surviving dovecote dates from the 16th century. These dates point to several historical layers within the estate. Architectural history can also be traced through specific dates in Kervern, where two distinctive houses date from 1647 and 1662.
On the border between Pleyber-Christ and Saint-Thégonnec, the Télégraphe site preserves the foundation of the tower of a Chappe telegraph station. Another trace of past activity can be found by the river at the site of the former Glaslan paper mill: the ruins of several buildings and ground traces of other buildings remain. The site is partly overgrown and privately owned.
Scenery and Trails
The Domaine du Treuscoat combines a 15th-century manor house with 63 hectares of woodland, meadows and parkland. The grounds also include eleven kilometres of trails. Another attraction is the Parcabout, a course on nets suspended between trees. This destination therefore brings together scenery and historic buildings, as well as an activity among the treetops.
If you want to choose a trail by theme, it is worth comparing two very different routes. La tournée de Jeanne is a 6.5-kilometre interpretation trail with eight stops. A clue-based trail leads visitors through a story about a former grocery shop owner and back to the 1960s. The Boucle de Riboul Potic, by contrast, is a six-stage walking route suitable for families through the Queffleuth Valley. Along the way, visitors can discover mills, the river, woodland and irrigated meadows; from the highest point, views stretch across the valley and the ridges of the Monts d’Arrée.
The development of La tournée de Jeanne is part of the expansion of the walking trails in Pleyber-Christ. The trail network also includes routes suitable for electric tricycles and people with reduced mobility. When choosing a particular route, consult its description. The Boucle du bourg à la vallée starts in the town centre next to the church. Check the starting point before setting off.
Art, Farm Visits and Other Activities
The Salle Anne de Bretagne is an exhibition space for contemporary visual art, housed in the former stables of the rectory. The exhibition programme may change. Depending on the artists’ preferences, exhibitions may be accompanied by meetings with artists, workshops or guided tours.
At La P'tite Ferme de Carole, the activities on offer include farm visits with animal care and a farm-style snack. During the “P'tits éleveurs” workshop, visitors get to know the farm animals and can feed and pet them. Check visit and workshop availability in advance. Visitors interested in fishing can take fly-fishing lessons for wild trout in inland waters with Pesketa; waders and high-quality fishing equipment are provided.
The options therefore have clearly distinct focuses: La tournée de Jeanne offers a narrated trail of clues and stops, while Riboul Potic focuses on valley and landscape views. Church art, architectural history, exhibitions, farm visits and fly fishing offer further themes to consider when choosing what to do during your stay.
