Gressier stretches for 13 km and is the main beach in Le Porge-Océan. It retains its wild character. There are also nature trails, an interpretive trail and historic sites. You can explore Le Porge according to your interests, through coastal activities, nature and heritage.
Beach and coastal activities
At Gressier, you can swim, go Nordic walking, surf, bodyboard and stand-up paddleboard. The availability of activities may vary seasonally. Surfing, bodyboarding and surf casting are practised year-round along the coast of Le Porge. At the same time, seasonal rules apply to safety zones.
The Vélodyssée Le Porge-Océan offers various access points to the beach and views of the ocean along the route. This gives you different ways to experience the coast: the expansive Gressier Beach and the views from the Vélodyssée. If you are planning a water activity, take seasonal conditions and rules into account.
Nature trails and protected areas
The Canal des Étangs lies between Lac de Lacanau and the Bassin d'Arcachon. It is designated as a ZNIEFF 1, ZNIEFF 2 and Natura 2000 site; human activities there are regulated. Check the applicable rules before taking part in water activities.
Poumon Vert has trails for hiking, horse riding and mountain biking that run through protected, sensitive Natura 2000 areas. Access to the forest may be subject to seasonal restrictions. When planning your visit, it is helpful to distinguish between these notices: activities are regulated at the Canal, while any seasonal restrictions at Poumon Vert apply to forest access.
Another option for a walk is the L'Homme et la Nature interpretive trail in Espace Jésus Veiga. It is 5 km long; as a walk for the whole family, it takes about 1.5 hours. Signage and access may be affected by the season. The estimated duration gives you a clear guide when planning a walk during your stay.
Art and heritage
The Cabane de Lentrade was the forest hut of a resin worker and houses a permanent exhibition with free admission. If you are planning a specific visit, check access beforehand. This lets you combine a visit to a former forest hut with an exhibition, rather than focusing your visit solely on the coast.
The Church of Saint-Seurin also offers a cultural and historical highlight. Its artworks listed as historic monuments include a painted wooden Christ, a 17th-century statue of Saint Eutropius, an 18th-century Madonna and Child, and a large painting of Saint Eutropius. The works differ both in their artistic form and in the period in which they were created. The church is on the Way of St James, also known as the voie des Anglais.
