A stay in Svenstrup can have different focuses: waterside paths, cycling and walking routes, fishing or architecture. The specific routes vary in length, endpoints and course; Svanemølleparken and Svenstrup Kirke add a green space and a Romanesque building to the picture. For your planning, it is therefore worth deciding first what kind of outing you would like to focus on.

Park, stream and fishing

Svanemølleparken is a recreational area in Svenstrup. The park is home to Svanemøllesøen lake, which was excavated and cleaned. A large part of Guldbækstien runs alongside the Guldbækken. The municipality designates both Svanemøllesøen and the section of the Guldbækken in Svanemølleparken as free fishing spots. If you are considering fishing as part of your stay, you can use these two bodies of water as a guide. They differ as fishing locations by water type: a lake on one side and a section of the Guldbækken on the other.

Choosing a trail: length, course and use

Guldbækstien is a 5 km unpaved trail from Godthåb to Svenstrup. A large part of the route runs alongside the Guldbækken. Hærvejen is on a different scale: as a hiking route, it is 30 km long and runs between Aars and Svenstrup. South of Aalborg, this route passes through natural landscapes of fields, trees and small streams. Comparing the two by distance, Guldbækstien, at 5 km, is significantly shorter than Hærvejen, at 30 km. Both lead to Svenstrup, but start from different places; their surfaces and connections to the landscape also differ.

Østerådalstien is a continuous cycling and walking path from the centre of Aalborg through Østerådalen North and South to Dall Møllevej at Svanemølleparken in Svenstrup. Bjergbanestien offers opportunities for hiking and cycling from Svenstrup to Nibe without using busy roads. Its route follows a former railway line. The choice also depends on how you plan to use the routes: Østerådalstien is a cycling and walking path, Bjergbanestien offers hiking and cycling, while Hærvejen is a hiking route. Their destinations also differ: Østerådalstien reaches Dall Møllevej in Svenstrup, while Bjergbanestien leads to Nibe.

Church and getting there

One practical limitation concerns the Svenstrup Syd route: there is no parking in its immediate vicinity. If you plan to take this route, take this information into account when planning your journey.

Svenstrup Kirke is Romanesque and features a Romanesque chancel with an apse, as well as a Romanesque nave; several later additions complete the building. The contrast between the Romanesque parts and later additions makes the church a distinctive architectural attraction. If you are interested in architecture as well as scenery and outdoor activities, the focus here is on the building, while the routes differ in length, course and use.
