Bjerringbro combines the GudenĂĄ Valley landscape with circular trails and various cultural attractions. Gentle, rolling hills shape the valley. When planning your visit, you can choose from specific walking and cycling routes, historical themes, and activities related to exercise and water.

Trails and Activities Along the GudenĂĄ

The Kjællinghøl Tour is a circular route between Bjerringbro and Kjællinghøl. It is 5.7 kilometres long on foot and 6.3 kilometres by bicycle. If you want to extend the route, you can add 3.9 kilometres to reach the Kjællinghøl Voldsted. This allows you to compare the two modes of transport by their respective route lengths, while the extension adds a specific destination.

Another circular route is the “8-tallet” around Bjerringbro, which crosses the Gudenå via three bridges. You can rent mountain bikes from Outdoor Bjerringbro; canoes and kayaks are also available to rent, and guided tours are offered. Along the Gudenå, the Å Promenade offers paths and space to play. These activities offer different ways to get outdoors: circular routes take you through the area on foot or by bicycle, while rentals and guided tours open up more options for active pursuits.

Church, Craft and Cultural History

Bjerringbro Church was inaugurated on 31 August 1919. Architect Harald Lønborg-Jensen designed it in the style of a Romanesque village church. The church is home to “Velsignelse,” a water sculpture by sculptor Jørgen Pedersen. The church, its architectural style and the artwork offer different ways to explore local history: a precisely dated event, an architectural classification and a named work of art.

At the historic Kjællinghøl workshop, an old architectural model meets a more recent replica: the workshop includes a reconstruction of a longhouse from the 6th century, built in 2002. The original model therefore dates from a different period than the replica. The workshop is located in a meadow at the edge of the forest, near the Gudenå. At the Bøgely forge, children can get hands-on experience with traditional craftwork, use tools, and explore iron and its possibilities.

The Gudenådalens Museum in Bjerringbro features a permanent exhibition on agriculture, crafts and the Viking Age. Gudenåhuset also has an exhibition space. For a different perspective on local town life, the Mad- og Kunstmarked (Food and Art Market) is held monthly in the pedestrian zone. The museum’s exhibition themes and the market offer different reasons to include culture and everyday life in your travel plans.

Leisure Spots and Practical Information

Børneskoven in Bjerringbro has a picnic shelter, a fire pit, a fortune wheel and a large fallen tree. It can be reached via Koldskær 8, 8850 Bjerringbro, or by following the signposted path. This provides both a specific address and a way to find your bearings on site.

Bjerringbro Swimming Pool has a 25-metre pool with six lanes, one- and three-metre diving boards, and a shallow children’s pool with a slide. As operating details may change, check them before your visit. Åpromenaden’s sauna is associated with winter swimming; access is intended to be available to those interested on a non-commercial basis. Check in advance whether this intended access applies to your visit.

These activities offer different options to choose from: you can focus on a circular route’s length and mode of transport, explore the church, museum or traditional crafts, or plan activities for exercise and leisure. Some facilities are described in terms of specific features, while access to others is explicitly subject to their intended use. This helps you adapt your day’s plans to each location and its conditions.
