The more than 800-year-old Humlum Church is a reminder of the Limfjord’s maritime history: sailors used the medieval church as a navigational landmark. The Struer–Humlum–Toftum–Gudum route passes by it and includes it among its attractions. This gives the church’s history a tangible connection to sailing on the fjord.

Church, route and watermill history

Another historic site near Humlum is Åmølle. The listed watermill is 500 years old and was in operation until 1953. Today, volunteers run it as a place for sharing history. The church and mill offer different perspectives: the church’s history includes its former role as a navigational landmark, while the mill illustrates the long use of a technical structure.

The routes also help visitors find their way to the attractions: the Struer–Humlum–Toftum–Gudum route passes Humlum Church. Regional Route 24 continues to Humlum Fiskerleje.

Open fields and distinctive landforms

Humlum and Resen are close to the Limfjord and feature an open moraine landscape with fields and small wooded areas. Around Humlum, fields, living windbreak hedges and nature areas protected under Section 3 also shape the landscape. Grazing and haymaking help maintain these areas and promote biodiversity and landscape quality.

West of Humlum lies Remmerstrand–Resen Kær. Here, low-lying coastal areas and valleys sit alongside distinctive slopes and hills. Near Humlum, Breinholt Arch consists of gentle hills that reach up to 46 metres in height; the highest ones have prehistoric burial mounds. The landscape thus encompasses both open, agricultural areas and lower-lying terrain with pronounced landforms.

Humlum Fiskerleje: harbour, beach and water park

Kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding are available at Humlum Fiskerleje. There is a slipway for launching boats, and the harbour also has water and electricity hookups. Parking is available at the beach and by the campsite. Bredalsvig Beach lies east of Humlum, at Humlum Fiskerleje and the campsite.

The water park at Humlum Fiskerleje is located by Humlum Camping, on a child-friendly sandy beach on the Limfjord, and is suitable for a family outing. Life jackets are compulsory in the water park and can be rented on site. The activities at Fiskerleje therefore vary: kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding are the water activities on offer, while the water park is described as a family outing where life jackets are required.

To decide whether Humlum suits your interests, you can compare its highlights: Humlum Church and nearby Åmølle represent church history and milling heritage; Humlum Fiskerleje offers water activities, harbour facilities and a water park. The open fields, hedges and protected nature areas complement these cultural and water-related attractions with a landscape perspective of their own.
