At T.W. Jensens Plads, sound becomes something you can hear: three iconic tuning forks stand there, created by The Overheard. When struck, the Stemmegaflerne play back the voices of Struer residents; in the evening, the sculptures light up. The sound sculptures invite you to play, explore and interact – so here, art is something you can do more than simply look at.
Local history and culture
The Old General Store exhibition preserves the original interior of Niels V. Jensen’s grocery shop. The shop operated from 1934 to 1993 on the corner of Danmarksgade and Nygade. The preserved shop interior connects a specific place with a clearly defined period of business, giving everyday history a tangible setting. The exhibition is open on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., or by arrangement with the museum. Check visiting hours in advance.
The Mid- and West Jutland Railway Museum is located just behind Struer Station, beside the old freight railway line. Exhibits include old tickets, train carriages and an old MX locomotive. Here, you can encounter various objects from railway history – from tickets to trains.
Struer Church and local craftsmanship also offer their own historical highlights: the church was inaugurated on 20 December 1891. Since 1947, Struer Kajak has been making handmade wooden kayaks. Gimsinghoved Art and Culture Centre hosts art exhibitions and live concerts by musicians. The cultural scene thus spans historic sites and craftsmanship, as well as art and music.
Trails and landscape by Kilen
Two trails of different lengths are highlights for walks. The Grønne Ring is an approximately 8-kilometre route through various green spaces and natural areas in Struer. Hjertestien ved Kilen is about 4 kilometres long, marked, and runs along Kilen near Voldgade and Sarpsborgvej. Based on the stated distances, the Grønne Ring is roughly twice as long; the two trails therefore offer a clear distinction when planning a walk.
Kilen is part of the lake area and is designated as a wildlife reserve to protect the area’s wildlife. Hjertestien runs along Kilen; the area’s protective function and the trail’s route are two distinct aspects of this landscape.
Landscaped green spaces also contribute to Struer’s character. Struer Lystanlæg and Borgerlunden are designed as English landscape gardens and maintained accordingly. The area also includes a nature playground. So, alongside the longer trails, you can choose landscaped green spaces with a dedicated, specifically named play area.
More activities
Struer Harbour comprises both a commercial port and a marina. If you’d like to try golf, Struer Golfklub has a 9-hole Pay & Play course where anyone can give golf a try. Kurbad Limfjorden offers an outdoor spa. These activities complement culture and walks with harbour experiences, golf and wellness, so there’s more to do in Struer than pursue just one interest.
When planning your trip, you can choose from a variety of interests: sound sculptures, museums and art sit alongside trails by Kilen, landscaped green spaces and other activities. The trail distances provide a practical guide for walks; check the opening hours of the general store exhibition in advance.
