Nimtofte is a small village in the heart of Djursland. Two long hiking trails pass through the village; their different lengths and the history of a former railway section provide concrete points of reference when choosing a route. Midtdjurssporet is 42 km long and passes through Nimtofte. Gjerrildbanestien also runs through the village. Comparing their lengths, Midtdjurssporet is the longer of the two routes, by approximately 14 km. Gjerrildbanestien also offers the history of the former railway towns as an additional point of interest.
Trains ran along the railway section now used by Gjerrildbanestien between 1911 and 1956. The present-day route therefore connects hiking trails with the history of the former railway. The Hjertesti at Lübker Golf & Spa Resort is 5 km long and is suitable for walking, running and picnicking. This means the route offers several ways to enjoy it. Lübker Golf Course is a 27-hole championship course. At Lübker Golf & Spa Resort, you can play pay-&-play golf without a membership or prior experience. Alongside the hiking trails described, you can choose a shorter route with different uses or golf as a separate activity.
Unique orchids and rare amphibian species thrive near Ådalen in Lübker’s nature area. This natural setting adds local plant and animal life to the trails and sporting activities. Taken together, the different options mean you can choose according to your interests: longer hiking routes, a shorter route, golf or nature.
Church, Barn and Kulturhus
Nimtofte Kirke was built around the 12th century, with a nave, chancel and apse made of granite blocks and unworked fieldstones. These architectural features and materials bring its historic architecture to life. Præstegårdsladen also stands by the church. Built in 1599, the barn houses a small agricultural museum with old tools and equipment. This brings together the medieval church and a collection of agricultural objects in a building dated to a considerably later period.
Another part of the local cultural heritage is Nimtofte Kulturhus. It is housed in former dairy buildings that were carefully restored in 2015/16 and are now considered an important part of the local cultural heritage. Unlike the church and barn, the focus here is on the history of a former dairy building and its preservation. Together, the three sites offer different ways to explore local architecture and history, without needing to visit them in a set order.
Dog Forest and Overnight Stays Outdoors
The dog forest in Nimtofte has two areas: one mainly for puppies and small dogs and one mainly for large dogs. Tourists in the area are also welcome to use it free of charge. The distinction between the areas is useful if you are planning to visit the dog forest; each area is intended primarily for the specified group of dogs.
The Bålhytte in Nimtofte’s recreational area is a municipal facility and is open for everyone to use. Please take the school’s opening hours into account.
