Tečovice combines a varied network of trails with a church whose history dates back to the late 13th century. There is also a chapel with paintings and local festivals. When planning a stay, it is therefore helpful to consider whether you primarily want to spend time on trails, explore architectural history or plan your trip around a festival date.

A network of trails and a specific distance

The Stezky mezi kopci trail network is suitable for hiking, Nordic walking, running and mountain biking. Most of the trails are accessible to mountain bikes. If you are choosing between these activities, this qualification is important: the information about cycling applies to most of the trails. One option with a specific distance is the red-marked Tečovické stráně trail. It is 9 km long and runs mostly through the area around Tečovice. This gives you a specific distance to work with when planning your days there.

In Tečovice, the Tečovické stráně trail passes the Kostel sv. Jakuba Staršího church. There are also viewpoints and flood-control ponds built by the municipality along the trail. So when planning, you can consider more than just the trail’s length: the building along the route, the viewpoints and the ponds are also named features of this trail.

Church and chapel: different periods of construction

The Kostel sv. Jakuba Staršího church was originally a Romanesque building dating from the late 13th century and was later remodelled in the Gothic and Baroque styles. The nave and chancel are decorated with 14th-century frescoes. Visitors can also see a valuable pulpit and a 13th-century baptismal font. These details bring several layers of history to life: the Romanesque origins, the medieval furnishings and frescoes, and the later alterations. If you plan to visit the church, it is advisable to check the specific visiting arrangements in advance.

North of Tečovice, a roadside chapel called Kaplička sv. Rodiny dates from around 1800. Its interior walls are covered with paintings by Josef Mikeš. Compared with the church, the chapel offers a different point of reference in time: its construction around 1800 and the wall paintings are the focus, while the church is notable for its Romanesque origins, 14th-century frescoes and later alterations. Visitors interested in architectural history can thus explore two different types of building from different periods.

Local festivals and when to visit

Tečovské hody is a revived local tradition. On 18 October 2025, it included a festive procession in which a ram was led. Tečovská pouť is also a traditional local festival. Festival dates vary from year to year. If you want to plan your trip around either one, check the dates before arranging your stay.

Planning an overnight stay in Tečovice

If you choose Tečovice as your overnight destination, you can tailor your search for a holiday apartment to the purpose of your trip. If you are visiting for a festival, its changing date is an important point to plan around. For a stay focused on outdoor activities, the 9 km red-marked trail offers a specific route to consider; for cultural interests, the church and chapel offer different points of focus. You can first decide which of these options you want to shape your stay, then plan your days accordingly.
