Jasenná combines a rich local history with hiking trails and a protected natural monument. Churches from different periods, the Fojtství manor house and the Portáš tradition provide a cultural focus. The trails to Vartovna and the area around Průkopa put the landscape and natural history centre stage.

Churches, the Fojtství Manor House and Portáš Heritage

Mikuláštíkovo fojtství is a national cultural monument. Its extensive reconstruction lasted from 2024 to 2026. The Fojtství reopened to the public on 11 June; new visitor facilities and a multimedia exhibition were created as part of the project. Check seasonal opening details before your visit.

The Baroque parish Church of St Mary Magdalene was built in 1672, and its tower dates from 1732. Its features include an organ by Jan Neusser, made in 1846 and considered one of the oldest instruments in the Zlín Region. The Protestant church dates from a different period: built mainly of stone in the Empire style between 1833 and 1836, it acquired its tower in 1861. Together, the two churches illustrate different periods in Jasenná’s architectural history.

Near the Fojtství, a statue of a Portáš recalls the region’s history. Sculptor Stanislav Mikuláštík created it in 1941. It is dedicated to Jiřík Mikuláštík, who was a captain of the Portáš in the early 18th century. Today, the Valašský soubor Portáš ensemble also helps preserve Wallachian culture. It performs folk songs and dances, presents customs and stages theatrical performances. In 2005, the ensemble revived the Jasenná tradition of church consecration processions featuring a ram. If you would like to see a performance or such a procession, check the latest dates before travelling.

Hiking Trails and Observation Tower

The five-kilometre hike along Baťova dráha runs from Vizovice to Jasenná and ends near the Protestant church. It is considered easy and is suitable for families with children and pushchairs. Surface conditions may change, so check them before setting out. At the end of the hike in Jasenná, you can visit a municipal orchard with old regional varieties.

Another, longer option is the seven-kilometre Oškerovy paseky–Jasenná–Vartovna educational trail. It has six stops and three information points. The Portášská naučná stezka educational trail also runs through the municipality. The two routes differ in length, with five kilometres on Baťova dráha compared with seven kilometres on the educational trail; the latter’s stops and information points are an additional feature.

A 37-metre-high observation tower stands on Vartovna, the highest point in the cadastral area of Jasenná. Its covered viewing platform is 35 metres above the ground and can be reached via 213 steps. In winter, the hiking trails in Jasenná can be used for cross-country skiing.

Nature and Getting There

Průkopa is a protected natural monument in the cadastral areas of Jasenná and Lutonina. Vsetín flysch layers are exposed there, and the area is considered suitable for excursions. Průkopa is freely accessible, and it is possible to drive to within 250 metres of it.

Road I/69 connects Jasenná between Zlín and Vsetín. Together with its local churches, Portáš heritage, trails and Průkopa, the village offers a variety of options for a stay focused on culture or nature.
