Březůvky combines a chapel with a clearly documented construction history, a barn monument of regional importance and bodies of water used for different purposes. The Chapel of St. Agnes of Bohemia and the timber-framed barn represent the area’s architectural and local history; at the Kapřín Reservoir, visitors can swim and fish for sport, while water can be collected at the Studánka Lukáščena spring. Planning your stay around these themes lets you choose between history and different water-based activities.

Chapel, Barn and Village History

Construction of the Chapel of St. Agnes of Bohemia began in 1998. It was completed at the end of August 2002 and solemnly consecrated by Bishop Mgr. Hrdlička. It is considered Březůvky’s main attraction and can be seen from the western edge of the municipality. The period from the start of construction to the consecration gives a clear sense of the building’s creation as a completed historical chapter.

The timber-framed barn is a monument of exceptional historical, material and architectural significance to the municipality of Březůvky and the entire Luhačovické Zálesí region. Unlike the chapel, whose construction and consecration dates provide a historical framework, the term “timber-framed” draws attention to the building method and the structure itself.

An earlier village tradition is also part of local history: people wearing masks made of pea straw, straw ropes and inside-out fur coats climbed a tree in the village square and delivered satirical sermons. Some people were publicly made fun of; those targeted had to buy their way out of the accusations at the inn. This account brings together costumes, mockery in the village square and an episode at the inn in a specific story from the village’s past.

Kapřín Reservoir

Kapřín Reservoir is about 200 metres long and almost 100 metres wide. It is therefore roughly twice as long as it is wide, providing a concise indication of the size of the water surface. Swimming for recreation is free; check current swimming conditions before your visit. Sport fishing is also possible at Kapřín. Swimming and fishing thus offer two different reasons to include the reservoir in your travel plans.

Spring and Getting There

The Studánka Lukáščena spring is about 1 kilometre from Březůvky. Residents of nearby villages, tourists and motorists often stop there to fill canisters with water. Collecting water is the main activity at the spring, while swimming and sport fishing are the stated uses of Kapřín Reservoir.

The Březůvky, Na Hutích bus stop is about 100 metres uphill from the end of the small Kapřín Reservoir. If you plan to travel by bus, check current services in advance. The stop’s location provides a specific point of reference for planning your journey.
