The valley of the Březnický potok, a war memorial in the village centre and a forest chapel on the ridge south of the village give Bohuslavice U Zlína three clearly distinct points of reference. They show how local history and landscape are connected here through specific buildings and a regional cycling route. When planning your trip, it is worth considering the valley village, the Chapel of St Hubert and the route that runs along the southern edge separately.

Valley and rolling hills

Bohuslavice U Zlína lies in a long, relatively narrow valley of the Březnický potok, on the north-western edge of the Vizovické vrchy. The surrounding area is hilly and wooded; elevations range from 236 to 464 metres above sea level. The stream, valley shape and elevation range provide a more precise picture than the general description of a hilly landscape. The landscape here is defined both by the narrow valley and by the undulating, wooded surroundings.

Local history and buildings

The first written record of the village dates to 1362. In the village centre, a memorial commemorates the victims of the First World War: a stone block bears a black marble plaque with the names of the fallen. The memorial anchors the memory of the war in a specific place at the centre of the village. Another historical landmark stands by a road in the southern part of Bohuslavice U Zlína: a stone crucifix dating from 1749.

These dates refer to different things: 1362 is the year of the first written record of the village, 1749 is the year of the crucifix, and 2003 is the year the chapel was consecrated. This makes it possible to place the local history and individual religious buildings in their historical context without confusing the dates.

The chapel in Bohuslavice U Zlína was consecrated by Bishop Josef Hrdlička on 18 October 2003. Its white tower symbolises hands folded in prayer. The modern, minimalist interior includes a Stations of the Cross that symbolically depicts Christ’s suffering through flowers. The tower and the Stations of the Cross offer different points of focus: one evokes a posture of prayer, while the other expresses Christ’s suffering through floral imagery.

Cycling route and forest chapel

Regional cycling route 5055 (Uherské Hradiště–Zlín) runs along the southern edge of the municipality. The forest Chapel of St Hubert lies about 1 km south of Bohuslavice U Zlína on a wooded ridge crossed by the route. This identifies two distinct geographical points of reference: the village lies in the valley, while the forest chapel stands on a southern ridge. For travellers interested in both the landscape and cycling, the route and the chapel’s location bring together two specific features of the surroundings.

A Carnival tradition kept alive

Not all local highlights are buildings. In Bohuslavice U Zlína, the tradition of the Carnival procession, including leading the bear and the “burial of the double bass”, is kept alive. It is one of the recurring public activities of the volunteer fire brigade. This custom adds another expression of local culture to the memorials and chapels.
