Jablůnka lies partly on the river deposits of the Vsetínská Bečva and partly on slopes leading to the western foothills of the Vsetínské vrchy. A cross dating from 1771 and the Kotáry, co pamatujú nature trail offer different perspectives on local history, the landscape, and remembrance. The railway also has a long history here, dating back to the expansion of the line to two tracks.
Culture and Local History
On the U Kříže hill, beside the road between Jablůnka and Bystřička, stands a cross dating from 1771. It has been protected as a cultural monument since 1958. The Baroque plinth is made of sandstone; its front bears the relief coat of arms of the Illesházy family, and its back is inscribed with the year 1771. Its style, material, and coat of arms give the monument its distinctive form.
The Evangelical church in Jablůnka has its own building history: its cornerstone was laid in 1877, it burned down in 1903, and was subsequently restored. A monument to the victims of the First and Second World Wars stands beside the church. It was reconstructed in 1995 and fitted with a commemorative capsule. Here, the history of the church and public remembrance meet, while the cross on the hill marks another part of the town’s history.
The first written mention of Jablůnka dates from June 24, 1505. It appeared in connection with the registration of an estate purchase in the Moravian land registers. A later link to local tradition is the “O nejlepší jablůnecků jabkovicu a o nejlepší jabkovů buchtu” competition for apple brandy and apple cake. Its 21st edition took place on June 6, 2026.
