Liptál offers clear points of interest for a stay combining cultural heritage and nature: a publicly accessible educational trail, historic churches, an annual folklore festival and distinctive habitats. As you explore the town, you can choose your own focus, from a marked route and architectural history to nature-related topics.
Educational Trail and Local History
The Kobzáňův chodník leads from the centre of Liptál via Obora towards Vartovna. The marked educational trail is open to the public; a marked stopping point is located at Liptál Castle. The castle was built in the centre at the end of the 17th century and is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. It is currently closed. In front of the castle, a remnant of the landscape park from the early 19th century is freely accessible. This allows you to appreciate the trail’s stopping point, the park remnant and the closed building as distinct aspects of a visit.
The churches also lend historical depth to the townscape. The Roman Catholic Church of St Michael the Archangel dates from 1796, while the Protestant church in Liptál dates from 1907. Their different dates and denominations offer a glimpse of sacred architecture spanning more than a century.
Folklore and Local Crafts
The international folklore festival Liptálské slavnosti has been held every year since 1970. The programme for its 57th edition on 22 August 2026 included craft days featuring woodcarvers, blacksmiths and other traditional crafts, as well as the opening of a fair. Alongside the historic buildings, the festival offers its own cultural focus. If you are planning your trip around Liptálské slavnosti, check the date for your travel year.
Natural Sites and Distinctive Habitats
The Přírodní památka Pivovařiska natural monument lies within the cadastral area of Liptál. Its wet meadow and sun-exposed slopes provide suitable conditions for orchids and rare wetland plants. The different site conditions make plant diversity a central theme here.
Another natural feature is the travertine mound at a spring outlet in the gorge near the Obora forester’s lodge. It is the largest in the Vsetín District. Liptál also has old adits left over from the mining of fine-grained sandstone for making whetstones. Today, they serve as a wintering site for bats, especially lesser horseshoe bats. The natural themes therefore range from plant habitats and a geological formation to a habitat for bats.
Cycling in Liptál
The cycling facilities include a varied asphalt pump track by the local sports complex. A bicycle repair stand is located at a pavilion by the pump track in the sports complex. The electric bicycle charging station at the fire station in Liptál was reported as operational as of 30 July 2024. The pump track offers a cycling activity in its own right, while the repair stand and charging station are practical stops for cyclists.
