Hošťálková lies nine kilometres west of Vsetín, in the valley of the Ratibořka and its tributaries. The settlement is scattered across the hilly terrain of the Hostýnské vrchy. Here, the landscape and the village go hand in hand: slopes, rocks and viewpoints shape the surroundings, while several noteworthy buildings stand in the village centre and elsewhere in the village. If you are considering Hošťálková as a destination for a holiday apartment, these two focal points offer an initial guide: natural features and views, or architectural history.

Landscape, plants and views

From the summit of Bludný, there are views of Kelčský Javorník, the Hostýnské vrchy and the Javorníky. Rare plants grow on Bludný’s grassy slopes, particularly on the northern slope. For those who want to compare different landscape features, the rocks of Čertovy Skály offer a different subject: erosion has shaped honeycomb structures, overhangs, cornices, ledges and fissures in their whitish, in places honey-coloured rock. A small rock window is also among the features described.

Rozhledna Maruška offers a wide-ranging panorama. The two-storey wooden observation tower stands at an altitude of 664 metres and is 16 metres high; its covered viewing platform is 12 metres above the ground. From there, a panoramic view opens up over the Hostýnské vrchy, Vizovické vrchy, Javorníky, Moravskoslezské Karpaty, Beskydy and Vsetínské vrchy. Kelčský Javorník, Radhošť with Pustevny, Lysá hora, Kohútka and Hošťálková are also in view. The tower has been open to the public since 2014; check the opening conditions before visiting.

Routes with different levels of difficulty

The routes to Rozhledna Maruška differ in length and description. From Hošťálková Castle, a challenging climb of almost five kilometres leads to the observation tower. From the Na Trojáku saddle, it can be reached by a walk of about two kilometres. Both routes are suitable for road bikes. For planning purposes, the key difference is between the challenging climb from the castle and the shorter approach from Na Trojáku; no specific walking time is given for these routes.

Výhledové okno lies along a route from the centre of Hošťálková towards Čertovy Skály. You can reach it by bus to the “Hošťálková, tělocvična” stop or by car; parking is available in the village centre. Check the current bus timetable and parking situation before setting out. Wooden rest stops with integrated information boards, modern solar-powered bicycle lockers and bicycle service stands have been installed in Hošťálková for cyclists.

Naučná stezka Tesák is a useful regional point of comparison: at 27 kilometres, it is the longest educational trail in Valašsko. Along the route are 23 stations about natural attractions in the Vsetínsko area and along the main ridge of the Hostýnské vrchy. The route is suitable for walkers and cyclists. It therefore offers a distinct, longer themed trail in the broader Valašsko region, while the routes described to Maruška compare specific approaches to a single observation tower.

Buildings from different periods

The Roman Catholic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross dates from 1798. Hošťálková Castle is a late-classical building from the mid-19th century. Another historic landmark is the stone Toleration Prayer House: built in the neoclassical style in 1831, it contains a valuable baptismal font dating from 1791.

Rural homestead No. 16 is also part of the village’s architectural heritage. A cultural monument since 1999, it is considered the last surviving example of log-built folk architecture of a uniform type of the original Valašsko house in the village centre. Together, the buildings illustrate different aspects of the village’s history: the church, Toleration Prayer House and castle represent different architectural forms and periods, while the homestead preserves a distinctive form of regional folk architecture. The baptismal font from 1791 and the church from 1798 extend this historical span back to the late 18th century, while the prayer house and castle represent further building phases of the 19th century.
