Ostrožská Nová Ves brings together spa traditions, nature and regional customs, offering different reasons to visit throughout the year. A spacious spa forest park, the bee nature trail with its twelve information boards, and local festival traditions give the town its distinctive character.
Nature and Spa Area
Sirnaté lázně Ostrožská Nová Ves includes a spacious spa forest park. A cycle path runs directly through the Sirnaté lázně grounds. The Včelí naučná stezka also passes through the spa area and the picturesque landscape around the gravel lakes. Its twelve information boards cover bees, their importance to nature, bee products and the development of beehives. The trail thus combines ecological themes with information about beekeeping and its products. The long-standing tradition of successful spa treatments at Sirnaté lázně is connected with the discovery of a unique natural healing spring with sulphurous natural mineral water. For the 2025 swimming season, the Albatros natural bathing area was designated as a natural swimming site; an operator offered swimming there. Crafts and Homes
Ostrožská Nová Ves was a centre for the production of Kraslice. Decoration of the Novoveské kraslice began around 1880 to 1890. The decoration uses wax-resist batik—a technique of painting with beeswax. This links a specific technique to the history of local crafts. Traditional homes are also among the town’s cultural themes: a listed house contains a museum with an exhibition on the subject. Ostrožská Nová Ves is also home to a typical smallholding building dating from the turn of the 20th century. Together, these themes offer different perspectives on local cultural history: crafts, homes and rural architecture.
Festival Customs and Dates
During Hody, the Stárky carry plates or baskets of fruit—a distinctive local detail of the festival tradition. Svatováclavské hody are also celebrated in Ostrožská Nová Ves on 28 September. A specific Fašank programme took place on 14 February 2026: it included a masked procession, performances by FS Novovešťan and an evening gathering with cimbalom music. These examples offer different insights into local customs: from the distinctive feature of Hody to the individual programme items of the Fašank event held on a specific date. Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests
When choosing a destination, it is easy to distinguish between nature and cultural themes. The bee nature trail passes through the spa area and continues into the landscape around the gravel lakes; the museum and smallholding architecture focus on homes and crafts. A festival date, in turn, can determine the best time to travel. The town’s different features thus provide a clear basis for planning your trip.
