Pitín lies on the upper reaches of the Olšava; its entire cadastral area is located in the central part of the Bílé Karpaty landscape, which has been protected as a Protected Landscape Area since 1980. Regional cycling connections, several educational trails and reminders of local history give visitors a variety of ways to spend their time. The Bílé Karpaty are characterised by flower-rich orchid meadows interspersed with predominantly deciduous forests.

Cycling and hiking trails around Pitín

Pitín is where the regional Bojkovska cycle route No. 5049 from Uherský Brod meets the Beskydsko-karpatská Magistrála (Beskydy–Carpathian Highway) No. 46. The route gives cyclists safe access to the central ridge of the Bílé Karpaty and the Moravské Kopanice region. The cycling connections thus lead from a meeting point in the village out into the surrounding landscape and region.

The Naučná stezka Bojkovická leads from Bojkovice railway station through Pitín, Hostětín and Šanov to the Na koncích border ridge. There are two route lengths to choose from: the longer loop is 24 kilometres, and the shorter one is 16 kilometres. The educational trail has ten information boards in total, one of which covers Pitín and traditional fruit varieties.

The Naučná stezka Moravské Kopanice offers a different focus. It follows forest and field tracks, leads to Pitínské Paseky and the Chapel of Panny Marie Kopanické, and provides information there about the birdlife of the surrounding landscape. The route is suitable for hikers and mountain bikers. Those looking for a loop with specified distances can follow the Naučná stezka Bojkovická; on the Moravské Kopanice trail, the choice is shaped by the terrain, destination and nature theme.

The Naučná stezka Naokolo Hostětína also leads to a distinctive place: one of its stops is by the Dub rodiny on Pitínské Jahodiska. The tree, which is more than 100 years old, stands on Jahodisko hill above Pitín. In good visibility, the view from there stretches across Pitín, the Pavlovské vrchy, the Ždánický les, Chřiby and the Vizovická pahorkatina. Above Pitín, the educational trail also offers views in good visibility of the towers of three nearby churches, as well as the more distant pilgrimage sites of Velehrad and Hostýn. The Kolelač reservoir can be seen from the viewpoint at Pitín’s former railway station.

Culture and local history

Josef Karel Matocha was born on 14 May 1888 as the fifth child of farmer and blacksmith Josef Matocha at No. 59 in Pitín. He died in Olomouc on 2 November 1961 and is buried in the cemetery in his hometown of Pitín. A memorial plaque was unveiled on his birthplace at No. 59 in Pitín.

The parish church of St. Stanislav was built in 1851 on the site of an older chapel. Beside the school stands a stone Baroque statue of the Virgin Mary with the Child. It is attributed to Josef Winterhalter and was acquired between 1758 and 1774. The Stanislavské hody festival takes place around 7 May, on the feast day of St. Stanislav; the Orel association also regularly organises the Pitěnský škrpál tourist walking march.

The Chapel of Panny Marie Kopanické is located in Pitínské Paseky. It was built in 1990 and consecrated on 8 September 1991. Its altar holds a figure of the Virgin Mary with the Child, dressed in the traditional costume of a Kopaničár. The chapel thus connects a specific place with a distinctive detail of its furnishings.

Sculptures and seasonal activities

Sochy v krajině is a group of 15 wooden sculptures connected by a trail and spread across the cadastral areas of Hostětín, Pitín, Šanov and Rokytnice. The wooden sculpture Kráva stands above Pitín. The sculpture group thus extends beyond the village, while Kráva is the contribution specifically associated with Pitín.

In summer, visitors can use the swimming pool on the grounds of the NIVA sports club. Check current access arrangements before visiting if you would like to include the pool in your plans.

There are several ways to choose activities: the Naučná stezka Bojkovická has two stated loop distances, while the Naučná stezka Moravské Kopanice combines forest and field tracks with a focus on birdlife. Visitors interested in culture will also find sites in Pitín and Pitínské Paseky from different periods, from the church and Baroque statue to the chapel and memorials to Josef Karel Matocha.
