Those looking to combine cultural history with walks will find plenty to explore in Troubky-Zdislavice: Zdislavice Castle, paths through fields, viewpoints and chapels. Options range from the castle’s history and Marie Ebner-Eschenbach’s biographical connection to the area to clearly identified outdoor destinations.

Castle History and Marie Ebner-Eschenbach

Zdislavice Castle was built at the end of the 17th century on the site of a stone fortress. In the 1840s, Count Dubský had the castle remodelled. Marie Ebner-Eschenbach was born at Zdislavice Castle on 13 September 1830. Her remains were transferred to Zdislavice and laid to rest in the Dubský family crypt. Three points in time therefore come together at the castle: its construction at the end of the 17th century, Ebner-Eschenbach’s birth in 1830 and its remodelling in the 1840s. Her birth falls between the construction and the later changes.

Access is important when planning a visit: according to a regional tourism website, on 25 August 2026 Zdislavice Castle was privately owned and not open to the public. Check access before planning a visit.

Bell Tower and Marian Chapel

The Baroque bell tower in Troubky-Zdislavice is a two-storey brick structure with a square floor plan and a dome. It was built around 1800 and has been protected as a cultural monument since 1958. The Marian Chapel in Zdislavice dates from the first half of the 18th century and stands in a prominent position at a crossroads south of the village. The chapel therefore predates the bell tower, built around 1800; the two buildings offer different architectural points of interest.

Walks to Viewpoints and Chapels

The Kamenný stůl viewpoint is about one kilometre from Zdislavice Castle. The path climbs gently through fields. At the destination are two benches and a stone table; from there, you can see the Chřiby hills with the Brdo lookout tower, as well as the Zdenička lookout tower. The seating and named viewpoints make Kamenný stůl a clearly defined destination for a walk.

The Kaštanová walk leads from the castle in Zdislavice along a road and a green waymarked trail towards Honětice and the Marian Chapel. Check the route markers on site before setting out. A short detour of about 100 m leads to a spring with benches and the Chapel of St Florian.

The destinations offer distinctly different experiences: Kamenný stůl is all about the view, Kaštanová leads to the Marian Chapel, and the short detour takes you to the spring and the Chapel of St Florian. Those particularly interested in architectural history will find points of interest at the castle and bell tower; for a biographical connection, there is Ebner-Eschenbach’s birthplace and the family crypt.
