For a trip to Ostašov, two cycling routes, several distinct viewpoints and a look inside Domácí Dobroty offer specific points of reference. The routes pass through the village and continue to named destinations; the landscape ranges from wooded hills and ponds to distant views that depend on the weather. This lets you decide whether cycling, nature and views, or local history should play a bigger part in your stay.
Cycling: route itineraries and destination Horák
Cycle Route 3 runs from Lipník via Ostašov to Petrůvky; Route 6 leads from Petrůvky via Ostašov to Klučovská hora and on to Střítež. Both descriptions mention Ostašov and Petrůvky, but differ in their other destinations: Route 3 names Lipník, while Route 6 also includes Klučovská hora and Střítež. Route 6 is also described as running from Ostašov along a field track to Horák pond. The route descriptions date from 2017; check the current route and signage before setting off. Also check current access conditions for the field track to Horák.
Views and nature
From the “Lipník side” of Ostašov, there is a panorama of Lipník and the more distant Moravské Budějovice. From the opposite “Petrov side,” the view takes in wooded hills and Sádek Castle. In very favorable weather, the peaks of the Alps can also be seen in the distance from Ostašov. From the meadows known as “Alpská vyhlídka,” the distinctive Alpine peaks Schneeberg and Ötscher are visible when weather conditions are suitable. Weather is therefore a specific planning factor for trips where distant views are a particular priority.
Nearby, on Klučovský kopec, there is a protected area where the pasqueflower grows. There are also several ponds around Ostašov; many species of waterbirds occur at Horák pond, though their visibility varies by season. The two nature-related highlights therefore depend on different conditions: suitable weather for distant views, and seasonal visibility for waterbirds.
Local history and a look inside Domácí Dobroty
Ostašov was founded in 1716 by František Karel Josef, a baron of Ostešov. At the Domácí Dobroty shop in Ostašov, visitors can sample the products on offer and see the fruit-drying room and the surroundings where the products are made. As business details may change, ask in advance if sampling or a look at the production process is important to you.
Community life is also part of the village’s history. In the past, Společnost ostašovských výletníků was associated with fairs, excursions and various events. Two past events are listed with dates: “Ostašovská pálenka a pomazánka” took place in Ostašov on 23 February 2013; “II. Ostašovský oheň” was held there from 1 to 3 August 2014.
