Nová Ves combines a tangible local history with distinctive landscape features: the village square, memorial sites and a documented mention dating from 1224 sit alongside the flooded limestone quarry north of the village. A mammoth find from Žlíbek adds an archaeological dimension to local history.

Village Square and Memorial Sites

The circular village square is a distinctive feature of Nová Ves that the village has preserved. There are two ponds in the middle of the square, with a memorial to the victims of the First and Second World Wars standing between them. The square’s design, bodies of water and memorial all come together at a clearly identified location. The memorial’s position is therefore as much a part of the village’s character as its subject.

Another memorial stands in the Větrovice forest in Nová Ves. It commemorates Jan Svoboda, a member of the State Police who was killed by German saboteurs on 11 May 1945. The exact date of his death and the circumstances provide a personal historical connection. Its subject therefore differs from that of the memorial on the village square, which is dedicated to the victims of two world wars.

Documented History and Mammoth Find

The first documented mention of Nová Ves dates from 1224 and appears in a charter issued by King Přemysl Otakar I. The village initially belonged to the Benedictine monastery in Třebíč. Another milestone in its history is recorded for 1556: King Ferdinand I transferred the Třebíč estate to Vratislav z Pernštejna as hereditary property. These details place the village’s history in chronological context—from its earliest written mention to a later turning point in the history of the Třebíč estate.

An archaeological connection leads to Žlíbek. In 1904, remains of a mammoth skeleton were found there during road construction, when foundations for bridge piers were being excavated. Some of the remains found in Žlíbek are held at the Zapadomoravské muzeum v Třebíči. The find links a specific place and year with a collection in Třebíč.

Landscape, Cycling and Horse Riding

A description dated 14 August 2026 places a flooded limestone quarry around 500 metres north of Nová Ves. The quarry to the north is a site where crystalline limestone is found. If you plan to include this location in your itinerary, check the conditions there again.

There is also a specific option for cycling: a 2019 municipal strategy plan shows marked Cycle Route 162 passing through Nová Ves on the route between Třebíč and Jihlava. Check the route details before setting out.

Ranč Vápenka offers rides or horse-riding opportunities for children and adults. Participation depends on arrangements with the operator. If you would like to include horse riding in your travel plans, check current options directly with the operator in advance.
