Traditions Throughout the Year
The traditional Masopust in Dolní Lažany features a masked procession through the village. A notice from the municipality in 2016 recounts how households along the procession route offered schnapps, carnival doughnuts and other food. The procession ended at the community hall with refreshments and brass-band music. Masopust thus brings together a procession through the village, food along the route and a musical finale at the community hall.
The recurring Velikonoční hrkání is another notable tradition: local men use rattles in place of church bells. The participants receive a reward on Holy Saturday. Unlike the Masopust procession, the focus here is on the Easter rattling tradition.
Tastings and Local Food
The Lažanský košt adds a tasting festival to the local traditions. People who were not from Dolní Lažany could also take part. By 19 March 2016, the event had reached its fifth edition. Tastings included slivovitz and other spirits, as well as goulash, spreads and sweet pastries.
A municipal notice from November 2025 reports on a traditional Hubertova jízda for horse lovers, held in Dolní Lažany. The ride followed surrounding paths and meadows; roasted sausages and mushroom soup were served in a meadow at the edge of the forest. Tastings are at the heart of the Lažanský košt, while the refreshments at Hubertova jízda were served in a meadow at the forest’s edge.
Competitions and Summer Programme
The Mácův memoriál is a regular tournament for amateur teams of three in Nohejbal, a Czech net sport, held on the sports field in Dolní Lažany. A municipal newsletter documented the nineteenth edition in 2021. The traditional Rybářské závody at Zámeček Pond is a 24-hour fishing competition. The formats differ in specific ways: at the Mácův memoriál, amateur teams of three compete in Nohejbal on the sports field; the Rybářské závody are devoted to fishing at Zámeček Pond for 24 hours.
The 2021 summer programme included a children’s relay race and a nighttime adventure trail at the Lažanský amphitheatre by the pond.
