The ruins of Kraví Hora Castle and the Údolí Oslavy a Chvojnice protected area represent two different sides of Kuroslepy. The castle stands on a hill above the village, while the cadastral area is included in the protected area. Boží muka, the memorial plaque to Stanislav Rejthar and KALIMETA add themes of heritage conservation, remembrance and events. Planning a stay can therefore range from medieval castle history and protected nature to events that require advance registration.

Castle and memorial sites

Kraví Hora Castle was built on a hill above Kuroslepy after 1360. It had already been destroyed before 1494 and remains a ruin to this day. Surviving features include curtain walls, a moat, a depression marking a well and a five-metre-high fragment of the tower. The curtain walls and moat are fortification remains; the well depression and tower fragment identify other parts of the complex. The castle can thus be understood through its chronology and its specific structural features.

Boží muka is one of the two listed cultural monuments in the cadastral area of Kuroslepy. The memorial plaque to Stanislav Rejthar is on the building of the municipal office. Another historical commemorative site is in the Oslava Valley between Kuroslepy and Kladeruby: a British Lynx helicopter crashed there in 2004. The event is associated with the remembrance of its six-member crew. The subjects therefore range from a medieval castle to an event in 2004; this span in time connects architectural history with more recent remembrance. The locations also differ: the plaque is associated with a building, while the crash site is in the valley between Kuroslepy and Kladeruby.

Protected area and nature

The Údolí Oslavy a Chvojnice European Site of Community Importance includes the cadastral area of Kuroslepy. Its habitats include oak-hornbeam forests, ravine forests, dry grasslands, rocky vegetation and vegetation along flowing waters. The range thus extends from forest habitats to dry, rocky and waterside environments. The nature perspective therefore encompasses different habitat types, not just a single type of natural environment.

Protected species include the Adriatic lizard orchid (Himantoglossum adriaticum), the great pasque flower (Pulsatilla grandis) and the bullhead (Cottus gobio). Together with the habitats, the protected-area perspective covers both plants and animal life. Wildlife observations are seasonal; when visiting, follow the applicable rules of the protected area.

Events at KALIMETA

KALIMETA is a circular hotel and music restaurant above Kuroslepy in the Vysočina Region, in the Třebíč District. The venue is open to attendees of concerts, lectures, seminars and other events by prior registration. KALIMETA is therefore a separate planning point alongside the castle and nature: an event date needs to fit your travel dates.

If you would like to include an event, check the current programme and registration details for your chosen date in advance. The programme and availability may change. Registration is a condition of visiting and should therefore be taken into account before planning your trip.
