Čechočovice combines a hillside setting with named hiking and cycling routes and a history dating back to the Middle Ages. This gives you three distinct areas to focus on when planning your trip: scenery, outdoor activities and local history.

Hillside Setting and Waterways

Čechočovice lies on the northern slope of Zadní hora and stretches towards the valley of the Stařečský potok. The Markvartický potok also flows through the village. The hillside setting and the village’s extension towards the valley provide a sense of its topography; the Markvartický potok adds a stream running right through the village.

Hiking and Cycling

The Třebíčský okruh (Cesta Václava Vlastníka) is a 49.5-kilometre hiking trail marked with yellow tourist signs. Čechočovice is among the places listed along the route. Its total length and marking colour are concrete points of reference for planning. Check the local signposting before setting out.

The “Rozhledna Mařenka – menší okruh” cycling tour passes through Stařeč, Čechočovice, Markvartice and Chlístov. In this order, Čechočovice lies between Stařeč and Markvartice. The sequence of places offers a point of reference for following the route described.

After the railway crossing, the cycling route described follows cycle route 5212 towards Stařeč. Check current route conditions before setting out. Compared with the hiking route, the cycling information focuses mainly on the sequence of places and the named cycle route; the hiking details highlight the total distance and yellow markings.

Local History and Visiting

Čechočovice may have been founded around the year 1300. Its first written mention, however, dates from 1358 and appears in the Brno Land Tables. This places a cautiously estimated date of origin alongside a later first written record. In the 14th and 15th centuries, Čechočovice was an independent estate and the seat of the local vladyka nobility, the Lords of Čechočovice. This helps place the village’s medieval history in context, both chronologically and in terms of its role at the time.

In 1499, the Čechočovice fortress was incorporated into the Brtnice estate. After that, it was no longer used as a residence and gradually fell into disrepair. The fortress is not accessible, so it should not be planned as a place to visit. If visiting it is important to you, check the local situation in advance. “Tvrz” refers to the fortified structure; the “estate” refers to the territorial lordship of the time, a different aspect of local history.

Getting There

Čechočovice is listed as a bus stop in connection with the Třebíčský okruh (Cesta Václava Vlastníka). If you are considering travelling by bus, check the current timetable before departure.
