Útěchovice Pod Stražištěm lies on the southeastern slope of the 744-metre-high Stražiště. Gentle hills, dense forests and ponds shape the landscape. The mix makes it an interesting destination: nature, cycling and traces of cultural history each offer a different focus.

Landscape, Nature and Cycling

The Kamenný vrch viewpoint is on the right-hand side of the road to Vyklantice and offers views of Pacov, Leskovice and Javořice. Mushroom-picking walks are also among the municipality’s nature activities. These offer two distinct ways to enjoy the natural surroundings: a specific viewpoint with named places in view, and an activity in the area.

The signposted local cycle route 1217 between Pacov and Vyklantice passes through the municipality. For cycling, it follows road III/12813. The route can be identified both by its number and by the road designation. Check the signs and the current route before setting off.

Local History and Culture

The first written mention of the place appears in the 1410 land register of Strahov Monastery. This date provides a specific early reference point for local history; later architectural and theatre connections tell of other historical chapters.

Myslivna No. 41, the local forester’s lodge (Hájovna), stands at the northern edge of the municipality. It is listed as an immovable cultural monument and is one of the local sights. It was also the birthplace of theatre director Jiří Frejka; a commemorative plaque on the façade recalls him. The complex includes adjacent outbuildings. The forestry building was remodelled in 1895. Its façades feature eclectic forms, and the gables are vertically boarded. Eclectic design draws on elements from different styles; the vertical boarding of the gables adds another specific façade detail. In 1920, Frejka and Jindřich Honzl founded the Osvobozené divadlo. The Hájovna thus brings together architectural history and Frejka’s theatre biography.

The remains of the old Smolína Castle, also known as Pechburg, lie near the municipality’s southeastern edge. Smrčinský Mill No. 20 is southeast of the municipality, beside a stream, and is considered a locally significant architectural building. The cultural-historical features differ: at Smolína, the focus is on castle ruins; at the mill, on its architecture and location by the stream.

Chapel and Local Events

The Baroque chapel in the lower part of the village is maintained, and its bell rings twice a day. Local events include a traditional Shrovetide procession and a pilgrimage. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these occasions, check the dates in advance. The bell offers a daily connection to the place, while the events have their own dates to factor into your travel plans.
