In Těchobuz, two educational trails lead to different discoveries: the shorter circular route through the village offers insights into historic buildings, while the Mozaikou krajiny educational trail connects the village with Kozák Pond. There is also the castle, buildings from several centuries and places associated with Bernardo Bolzano. This makes it easy to plan your stay around your interests in architecture, local history or natural history.

The castle and traces of Bolzano

Těchobuz Castle is built on the foundations of a 14th-century fortress. Bernardo Bolzano stayed at the castle from 1823 to 1848. The former school is also associated with him: it was built in 1823 at his instigation. The year therefore marks both the beginning of his stay at the castle and the construction of the school building. Another architectural trace is the Bernarda Bolzana Gallery. It is housed in a former castle granary, whose cellars and load-bearing structures have been preserved in their original form. These places reveal different aspects of local history without needing to be reduced to the same period or function.

Church, chapel and vernacular architecture

The Cemetery Church of St Mark is a single-nave Gothic church; it was first mentioned in 1338. It acquired its present appearance through a striking early Baroque renovation. The Cemetery Chapel of St John of Nepomuk makes a different architectural statement: built in 1826 in the Empire style, it has a circular ground plan. Historically, it served as the Hoffmann family crypt. Another distinctive building is the polygonal, drive-through timber block barn. Considered an example of vernacular architecture, it is a rare monument of this type in the Vysočina Region. It was fully reconstructed in 2013 and 2014. Together, these buildings invite visitors to look out for different forms, periods and former uses as they explore.

Two educational trails, two different focuses

The Po pamětihodnostech Těchobuze educational trail consists of two circular routes. The shorter one runs through the village and offers insights into historic buildings. Mozaikou krajiny has a different focus: this 2.5-kilometre educational trail connects Těchobuz to Kozák Pond via a blue-marked hiking trail. Six information boards introduce the local fauna and flora, as well as the Pacovská pahorkatina uplands. This distinction can help you choose an outing: the shorter loop focuses on the village and its architectural history, while Mozaikou krajiny focuses on landscape and natural history.

Bolzanova studánka also brings together local history and the route itself. From the castle, the spring can be reached via the Po pamětihodnostech Těchobuze educational trail. Bolzano used it as a place to work and rest. Local legend also says that he found the Hoffmanns’ lost daughter there. The reported use and the legend belong to different forms of storytelling: one describes Bolzano’s connection to the spring, while the other is explicitly a legend.

Parkland and travel planning

The castle park is a 19th-century landscaped park. A central hornbeam avenue and an irregular network of paths shape its layout. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Těchobuz, you can choose what to explore based on the themes you want your stay to revolve around: castle and architectural history, traces of Bolzano, or educational trails with their cultural-historical and natural-history focuses. The park adds a historic landscape to the picture. Těchobuz thus offers several concrete starting points for planning a trip, rather than being limited to a single building or circular route.
