A 1910 touring motorcycle, an alpine garden on the castle’s rocky outcrop, and a chapel with early Baroque furnishings showcase the diverse cultural and natural attractions of Kámen U Pacova. To help you choose a destination, take a look at these distinct highlights: Hrad Kámen combines castle and motorcycle history, while the chapel, park, remarkable trees, and hiking and cycling routes offer other perspectives.
Hrad Kámen Castle and Historic Motorcycles
The originally Gothic Hrad Kámen Castle was founded at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. It was named after the prominent rocky outcrop on which it was built. Between Tábor and Pelhřimov, it played an important role as a Hussite stronghold. Its history thus links it closely to the surrounding landscape and to the Hussite period.
The motorcycle exhibition also helps define the castle’s character: it is one of the oldest specialized motorcycle exhibitions in Czechia. The current collection includes a 1910 touring motorcycle. The visitor program features three guided tours covering the Old Palace, life in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and motorcycles. The themes offer different perspectives—from the castle and domestic life to technology. Visitors interested in historic motorcycles will find a dedicated focus here alongside the architectural history.
Baroque Architecture and Furnishings
The Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows is one of the most significant Baroque religious buildings in the Pelhřimov area. An exceptionally valuable collection of early Baroque furnishings has been preserved inside. The chapel was intended primarily to serve as the Malovec family’s representative burial chapel. Its architecture, preserved furnishings, and intended purpose thus offer different insights into the building and its history.
Compared with the castle’s Gothic origins, the chapel offers a different historical perspective: the focus here is on its Baroque style and early Baroque interior furnishings. Visitors interested in architecture can distinguish between the different characteristics of the two buildings rather than reducing Kámen to a single historical period.
Park and Remarkable Trees
Hrad Kámen’s park is open throughout the season and free to the public. Check seasonal information before your visit. The park includes an alpine garden laid out on the castle’s rocky outcrop, where the garden setting and the castle’s rocky location come together.
Remarkable trees are also part of the area’s natural heritage. The so-called Lípa v lípě is a lime tree growing within the remains of its original parent tree. It stands below the castle grounds in the center of the village. The grounds of Hrad Kámen are also home to a Nootka cypress (Chamaecyparis nootkatensis) and a copper beech (Fagus sylvatica f. purpurea), designated memorial trees in 2001.
On Foot or by Bike
The red-marked hiking trail from Pacov to Hrad Kámen connects Pacov railway station with the castle. Along the way, it passes through woodland and open countryside. Check trail conditions before setting out, as they can change. Cycling Route 321 passes through Kámen on its stretch between Kamenice nad Lipou and Mezilesí. The routes therefore differ in their mode of travel and reference points: the hiking trail leads from the railway station to the castle, while Kámen lies on the cycling route between two other endpoints.
