The first written mention of Píšť dates back to 1352. The history of the village comes to life through specific technical details of the Rachyňský Mill. Another point of interest is the Vojslavický Bridge and its double-bridge structure. For travel planning, direct bus connections to Zruč nad Sázavou and Pelhřimov are also important.
Mill History and Chapel
The Rachyňský Mill stood by the Blažejovický Brook before 1748. In 1890, it had two overshot water wheels. With this design, water flows onto the wheels from above; the term describes how the water is used. The year places the equipment in time, while “overshot” refers to its construction. Milling stopped at the mill after 1950, but the machinery was preserved. The end of milling and the preservation of the machinery are thus distinct parts of its history. The bell in Píšť’s chapel is also dedicated to Saint Adalbert. This dedication adds a distinct religious point of interest to the mill.
Vojslavický Bridge: Design and Construction Phases
The Vojslavický Bridge is a 229-metre-long double bridge over the Želivka Reservoir. A Class III road runs on the lower level, and the D1 motorway runs twelve metres higher. The 229 metres refers to the length of the structure, while the twelve metres is the vertical distance between its two levels. The lower arch bridge dates from 1939 to 1950. It did not enter service until the upper motorway bridge was built between 1975 and 1979. The construction period and the opening date therefore represent different phases. The arch shape describes the lower bridge’s design; the road classification and the D1 identify the routes on the two levels. The bridge is listed as an immovable cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Píšť’s first written mention in 1352 long predates the bridge’s construction phases in the 20th century.
Píšť Nature Trail
A report from April 2021 describes the Píšť Nature Trail as approximately 1.5 kilometres long and lists ten stations. It gives the Vranice district as the starting point and Píšť’s sports ground as the endpoint. The stations have information boards, activities or puzzles for children. The length gives an approximate indication of the distance; the stated endpoints help to identify the route described. If you plan to walk the trail, check the current route details locally: the information refers to the 2021 description.
