Rozseč brings together a well-defined local history and a marked cycle route: the church, a cross stone and memorials in the cemetery offer different historical perspectives; cycle route 5092 passes through the village. This provides a clear focus for planning a trip, combining cultural history and cycling, complemented by geographical landmarks such as streams and ponds.
Church, Cemetery and Village Square
The church “Kostel Božského srdce Páně” was built in Rozseč in 1908 on the site of a former chapel dedicated to Saint Barbara. Today it is more commonly called “Nejsvětějšího srdce Ježíšova”. Both names refer to the same church, preserving the history of the earlier chapel as well as that of the present church, built at the beginning of the 20th century.
A central cross stands in the cemetery in Rozseč; there is also a monument to the victims of the First World War. Two distinct memorials are thus present: the cross as a central feature of the cemetery and the monument with its specific reference to the war victims. At the village square, house no. 19 is an example of a representative rural façade from the late 19th century. Alongside the religious and commemorative details, the façade also brings rural architecture into focus.
The Cross Stone: History and Location
The cross stone, dating from 1681, marks the place where ten-year-old Tomáš Chalupa from Rozseč died: he was struck by a gate and succumbed to his injuries. During land consolidation, the stone was moved to its present location in 1962. The two years serve different purposes: 1681 dates the cross stone, while 1962 marks its later relocation. This makes it possible to distinguish the stone’s historical association from the history of its location.
Rozseč on the Cycle Route
For cyclists, marked cycle route 5092 provides a practical planning reference: it passes through Rozseč. The second stage of the “S kolem kolem Telče” cycle tour also follows cycle route 5092, passing through Stará Říše, Rozseč and Zdeňkov, among other places, before reaching Knínice. The details answer different questions: the route shows that Rozseč lies on a marked trail; the stage description places the village in a sequence with other named places. If you include this route in your plans, check the markings before setting off.
Streams and Ponds as Landmarks
The Otvrňský potok flows east of Rozseč. The pond Nový rybník lies on this stream southeast of the village; the pond Obecní rybník lies northwest of the village on an unnamed stream that flows through Rozseč. The two waterways therefore differ both in their direction from the village and in the stream associated with each: the Otvrňský potok is named for Nový rybník, while the unnamed stream flowing through the village is associated with Obecní rybník.
