Zadní Vydří lies in a picturesque landscape at the foot of the Jihlavské vrchy hills. Cycling route No. 5124 passes through the village. When planning your trip, it is worth checking the route details carefully: they cover both complete circular rides and individual sections.

Cycling routes and route selection

Along one section, route No. 5124 in Zadní Vydří coincides with route No. 16. Check the signs and route conditions before setting off, as both can change. The 34 km circular cycling route “S kolem kolem Telče – 1. den” runs from Telč via Kostelní Myslová, Náglův statek, Zadní Vydří, Černíč and Nová Říše, and back to Telč.

The “Vyhlídková” tour runs from Telč via Kostelní Myslová and on to Zadní Vydří. It is listed at an elevation of 525 m near Telč; the section to Kostelní Myslová is listed as 5 km, and the following section to Zadní Vydří as 2 km. These section lengths cannot be directly equated with the total length of a circular ride.

A 31 km circular cycling route starts and ends in Dačice. It passes through Kostelní Vydří, Zadní Vydří, Kostelní Myslová, Telč, Radkov, Černíč and Malý Pěčín, before returning to Dačice. Along the way, it passes ponds, forests and quiet villages; the route is considered a leisure ride.

The two circular rides differ by three kilometres and start in different places: Telč is the starting point and destination for the 34 km loop, and Dačice for the 31 km loop. For the “Vyhlídková” tour, the sections leading to Zadní Vydří are listed instead. When planning, it is therefore important to distinguish whether you are comparing a complete loop or just a section.

Local history and cultural traces

The first written mention of Zadní Vydří dates back to 1385. The settlement originally belonged to Šternberk Castle; in the 16th century, it was called Krajní Vydří. Zadní Vydří is part of the Telčsko microregion.

South of the village lies a Jewish cemetery with around 150 Baroque and Neoclassical gravestones. Most date from the 17th and 18th centuries. Its historical perspective therefore extends beyond the village’s earlier history to later gravestones.

Landscape and nature

The registered significant landscape feature V Kopcích lies 700 metres southwest of Zadní Vydří. It comprises dry, acidic nutrient-poor grasslands on shallow soils and shrub vegetation, and is an important refuge for invertebrates. The Vyderský potok is one of the watercourses flowing through the area of Zadní Vydří; along its entire length, it is a natural watercourse. Thus, a specifically described habitat area and a natural watercourse represent different aspects of the landscape.
