A stone reconciliation cross in the village square, two ancient cellars on the outskirts and the landscape of the Křižanovská vrchovina give Dobroutov several specific points of interest for a stay. The village lies on Road II/351, which connects Polná and Třebíč. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether village history, local traditions or the rural surroundings should be the main focus.
History in the Village Landscape
Two ancient cellars have been preserved on the outskirts of Dobroutov. Built into a hillside, they are locally known as “lochy”. In the village square, by the stream opposite house No. 48, stands a stone reconciliation cross with a cross carved into it. According to local tradition, it commemorates two French soldiers who died there in a duel over a girl.
A wooden Romanian cross dating from 1945 was replaced by a permanent, faithful replica made of steel pipes.
The Chapel of Saint John the Baptist in Dobroutov belongs to the Roman Catholic Parish of Polná. On the road to Polná stands a statue of the same saint, a work by sculptor Václav Viktor Morávek of Polná. Both features concern John the Baptist, but tell different stories about Dobroutov: the chapel is affiliated with the church, while the statue is attributed to a specific sculptor.
Traditions and Events
A musical Shrovetide masquerade procession takes place regularly in Dobroutov. The wine walk “Dobroutovské putování za vínem” also returns; a notice from 2026 describes it as the fifth edition. A traditional fishing event is held at Horní rybník, behind the stadium. If you are travelling for an event, check the specific date before finalising your travel dates.
Landscape and Hiking
Dobroutov is surrounded by the natural landscape of the Křižanovská vrchovina. The cadastral area includes, among other places, Ochoz, a forest complex considered the largest in the Polensko region. The natural landscape around the village and the forest complex within its cadastral area offer two different scales for understanding the local landscape.
The Zhořský potok flows through Dobroutov and joins the stream Šlapanka in Polná, a tributary of the Sázava. This watercourse connection can therefore be traced from the stream in the village, through Polná, to the Sázava.
A 10 km hiking route starting in Polná offers a view of Dobroutov after an ascent. When planning your day, take into account the starting point in Polná, the route length and the ascent.
For your travel planning, it is worth distinguishing between several considerations: for an event-focused stay, plan around the specific date; for the hike, consider the starting point, route length and ascent. The historic features in the village offer a separate theme. This way, you can plan your stay around the reason for your visit.
