The source of the Moravská Dyje lies in a meadow between forests, two kilometres north of Panenská Rozsíčka and below Hřeben Hill, at an altitude of 653 metres. There are two sculptures at the spring; a green-marked hiking trail from Třešť and cycle route 5091 also lead there. Village history, lime trees and historic crosses complement the focus on nature and art. This gives you several specific themes to explore during your stay, each rooted in the landscape and the village.
A spring, flowers and art
The sculpture “Jarní studánka” and the blue-and-white tree sculpture “Zrození” together form the first stop on the Kristkovy podyjské glyptotéky. Lubo Kristek created this artistic pilgrimage route in 2005–2006. Its sculptural stops lead through the Czech Republic, Austria and Slovakia. The spring near Panenská Rozsíčka is therefore part of an art project that extends beyond the village.
Depending on the season, spring snowflakes, primroses, daisies, carnations and a yellow iris bloom at the spring. Blooming periods may vary. The plants add a seasonal aspect, while the two sculptures provide a lasting artistic connection at the spring.
A glimpse into local history
The earliest known mention of Panenská Rozsíčka probably dates from 1351. From 1538, part of the village belonged to the Nová Říše monastery. The other part, together with Bezděkov and Stejští, belonged to the Vencelík estate of Třešť. These historical details trace a village history shaped by different affiliations.
Eleven stately lime trees stand around the school and in the village square. They provide two distinct points of reference in the village: the area around the school and the village square. If you would like to explore the village as well as the spring, these are further landmarks to look out for.
Cast-iron crosses are also local historical markers. One cross on a granite pedestal was erected in 1851. In the lower part of Panenská Rozsíčka stands a similar cast-iron cross on a granite pedestal, bearing the year 1864 carved into it. The two dates refer to different crosses and are therefore separate points of reference for the village’s history.
Accommodation with local connections
Penzion Dyje was created through the extensive renovation of the local school building. If you include this accommodation in your search, check current availability before booking. Its connection to the school building adds a specific accommodation link to the village’s history.
Walk or cycle to the spring
Near Panenská Rozsíčka, a green-marked hiking trail runs from Třešť to the source of the Moravská Dyje. Cycle route 5091 passes through Panenská Rozsíčka and continues for 2.1 kilometres to the spring. These are different details for planning your trip: the two kilometres describe the spring’s location north of the village, while 2.1 kilometres refers to a section of the cycle route. It is advisable to check the route details before setting out. This lets you choose between the described hiking trail from Třešť and the cycle route section without treating them as the same route.
