Hubenov can be explored through several specific themes: a valley shaped by meadows along the JedlovskĂ˝ potok stream, named hiking and cycling routes, the reservoir, and a local history that dates back to the 14th century. When planning your stay, you can decide whether the landscape, outdoor activities or historical traces will shape your visit. These different themes give Hubenov its own character without requiring you to follow a set itinerary.
Meadow Valley and Hiking Trail
A well-preserved valley shaped by meadows along the JedlovskĂ˝ potok stream is one of Hubenov’s characteristic landscape features. The ÄŚeĹ™Ănek Nature Park is also connected to the municipality, but only across a very small area in the west. This is an important distinction: the nature park does not cover the entire municipal area, but only this small western section.
A yellow-marked hiking trail runs through Hubenov from ÄŚeĹ™Ănek to JeĹľená. These named places give the route a clear direction, with Hubenov along the way. This provides a specific reference point for planning a hike, while the meadow valley describes another distinctive aspect of the local landscape.
Cycling Route and Reservoir
The cycling route “JihlavskĂ˝mi vrchy do pĹ™ĂrodnĂho parku ÄŚeĹ™Ănek” also passes through Hubenov. It is classified as challenging. The two routes can therefore be distinguished by their respective features: the hiking trail is marked in yellow and runs between ÄŚeĹ™Ănek and JeĹľená, while the cycling route has an explicit difficulty rating. This rating applies to the cycling route.
The Hubenov Reservoir serves a water-management purpose: it stores water for the drinking water supply of the city of Jihlava. Construction began in 1968, and the reservoir was put into permanent operation in 1974. The two dates describe different stages, from the start of construction to permanent operation.
There is a clear restriction for visitors: access to the immediate area around the reservoir is prohibited. Check the local signs before visiting. This allows you to understand the reservoir as part of the history of the water supply without planning a visit to the restricted immediate area.
Historical Names and Local History
The old settlement associated with Hubenov was probably established through German colonisation. It was mentioned as Hladov in 1366; Latin documents refer to it as Steindorf. The original inhabitants raised livestock on pasture. These early names already show that Hubenov’s history is connected with different names and forms of settlement.
Later, the pasture farms of Hladov (Starý Hubenov) and Hubenov (Nový Hubenov) came into the possession of Želiv Monastery. In 1599, Albrecht z Ratibořic sold the village of Hladov and the Hubenov farm to the city of Jihlava. The property remained in the hands of Jihlava’s citizens until 1848. The names Hladov and Hubenov, along with the additions Starý and Nový, belong to different historical names and contexts.
Another specific local landmark is the memorial to AntonĂn Novák. It stands at the Jedlov–NovĂ˝ Hubenov crossroads in the district of StarĂ˝ Hubenov. Together with the sequence of place names, it complements the earlier history of ownership with a named location in present-day Hubenov.
Accommodation and Focus of Your Stay
If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Hubenov, you can choose where to stay based on the themes you would like to include in your visit: the meadow valley, the hiking route, the cycling route classified as challenging, or the local history. The routes offer different points of interest, while the reservoir is best understood in terms of its role in Jihlava’s drinking water supply and its construction history. If you plan to visit the immediate area around it, take the access restriction and local signs into account.
