A chapel and memorial sites in the village, a monument in the forest to the west, and various cycling and hiking trails give Březejc a blend of culture and landscape. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for a stay focused on nature and history, you can plan around the village’s history, its landscapes, and routes with different geographical connections.

Chapel, Memorial Sites and Local History

Březejc is first mentioned in 1371 under the name Brzesye. The municipality is home to the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk; a memorial cross to the soldiers from Březejc who fell in the First World War stands right beside it. The chapel and cross are two distinct, neighboring landmarks: the chapel represents religious heritage, while the cross commemorates those who fell from the village.

Another memorial site lies in a forest 600 meters west of the edge of the village: the Pomník Ladislav Klimek monument commemorates the Czechoslovak pilot por. Ladislav Klimek. He died there on May 16, 1957, when a MiG-15 fighter aircraft crashed. The memorial cross beside the chapel and the monument in the forest differ both in location and in what they commemorate: one recalls soldiers from Březejc who fell in the First World War, the other the named pilot and the 1957 event.

Forests, Wetland Habitats and Routes

Forests cover 34.5% of the cadastral area of Březejc. The regional biocenter Březejcký les lies at the southeastern edge of the planning area. Its habitats include mixed forest, bog, meadows and water; it also encompasses the small Holánek pond and a wet cultural landscape meadow. Forest, water and wetland habitats give the landscape a different character from the memorial sites in the village and in the forest to the west.

When planning routes, it is worth distinguishing the cycling routes by their respective connections. Cycle Route 5242 runs through Březejc and follows the road there toward Ořechov. The signposted Cycle Route 5240 runs between Tasov and Bohdalec and extends into the planning area of Březejc. The first runs through the village toward Ořechov; the second connects the named places with the planning area. A blue-marked hiking trail also runs along the southern edge of the cadastral area. Its location at the edge of the area sets it apart from Cycle Route 5242 through Březejc and Cycle Route 5240, which extends into the planning area.

A long-distance hiking trail is also connected to Březejc via Jabloňov. An existing paved farm road between Březejc and Jabloňov provides a connection from the village to the signposted long-distance hiking trail Třebíč–Budišov–Tasov–Jabloňov–Ořechov–Velká Bíteš–Bílý potok Valley–Veverská Bítýška. Check road conditions before setting out; for Cycle Route 5240, you should also check the markings on site.

Planning Your Stay

Březejc lies on the road between Velké Meziříčí and Ořechov. This provides a geographical reference for planning your trip; you can plan the specific journey based on your chosen route. When looking for a holiday apartment, consider whether village history, the landscape, or cycling and hiking trails will be the focus of your stay. The information provided locates the chapel and memorial cross in the village, the hiking trail at the southern edge of the cadastral area, and the biocenter at the southeastern edge of the planning area.

Březejc also takes part in the St. Giles pilgrimage in Ruda, which is part of the village’s religious life. The parishes in the parish community make harvest wreaths and harvest flowers and carry them in a traditional costume procession before Mass. If you would like to include the pilgrimage in your travel plans, check the event dates in advance.
