Košťany combines a strong connection to the landscape with a range of options for your stay. A significant part of the cadastral area lies in the Ore Mountains (Krušné hory). There are also specific attractions to choose from: the green trail in the Cyklopark, a named route, the hunting lodge as a destination for shorter walks, and places with connections to nature and local history. This is not a single, uniform kind of tour, but a range of ways to shape your stay. When planning, you can first decide what kind of excursion you want, then consider the distinctive features of each destination. In particular, the intended audience, starting and ending points, and access are important when making your choice.

Trail or route: check the family guidance carefully

The green trail in the Cyklopark Košťany is intended for children, beginners, and families. The route “Za zatopenými doly a skláři” is a different option: it starts and ends at Mírové náměstí in Košťany and is especially suitable for children aged five and up. This route is not suitable for families with strollers. This is a useful distinction when planning with children: the trail is defined by its intended audience, while the route also has a clearly specified starting and ending point, along with specific guidance on age and strollers. You can therefore choose based on which feature matters most for your day.

Hunting lodge: a walking destination with access restrictions

The hunting lodge of the Lobkowicz family lies 1 km north of Košťany’s square; the access road leads via K zámku Street in Střelná. It is suitable as a destination for shorter walks, but is currently not open to the public. This distinction is important when planning: the lodge can be the destination of a shorter walk, but public visits are not currently possible.

Nature and architectural history

The surviving trunk of the Ludvíkův dub oak is worth a visit and offers a different focus from routes and architectural history. Stop 12 on the “Zmizelé Košťany” walk marks the Church of the Elevation of the Holy Cross (Vyzdvižení sv. kříže). It was built between 1859 and 1861 in the Neo-Romanesque style. The combination of its construction dates and style makes the church a clearly defined subject for anyone interested in architecture and local history. Together, the oak and the church offer two distinct points of interest: a named natural site and a historically situated church building. This lets you weigh nature against architectural history rather than treating both destinations as similar attractions.

Choose the right focus

For a manageable day plan, the options differ in character: the trail and the route offer opportunities for activity, with the trail intended for several groups and the route starting and ending at Mírové náměstí. The hunting lodge is suitable as a destination for shorter walks; the church is a named stop on the “Zmizelé Košťany” walk. First choose between a trail or route experience and a walk focused on a natural site or architectural history.
